MOBILE PHONE MAKER Motorola has announced that its Milestone smartphone is available at the Carphone Warehouse starting today.
We reviewed Motorola's and Europe's first Android 2.0 smartphone back in January. At the time Motorola had an exclusive deal with the online retailer Expansys but the company has now signed a deal with Carphone Warehouse to flog its handset to the UK.
Carphone Warehouse has the Milestone in stock at its 350 stores across the UK and it is also available online at its website.
The Milestone lacks the richer feature set of Motorola's Dext, specifically Motoblur, but it is a good, if plainer, smartphone that runs Google's Android 2.0 software. Many of the Milestone handsets sold will probably be destined for the corporate world.
"We are thrilled to announce the Milestone's availability at The Carphone Warehouse in the UK. The Milestone is one of the jewels in our Android crown and we look forward to offering this to The Carphone Warehouse's customer base," said Ralf Gerbershagen, vice president and general manager of Motorola for western Europe.
The Carphone Warehouse is offering the Milestone on 12, 18 and 24-month contracts with Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone from £35 a month. µ
While everyone is flopping 512MB RAM with 1GHz CPU speed, yours 256MB RAM Milestone seems alittle less, don't you think?
The docile staff member I approached in the larger of the Leeds city centre branches certainly claimed otherwise; couldn't even say when it would be in.
But I did get a sense that she hadn't even heard of it.
