CHIP LEADER Intel has listed its Core i7-930 even though it is not supposed to formally make an announcement until February 28th.
Chipzilla's next quad-core CPU has appeared ahead of launch at some European online stores. The Core i7-930 is eagerly awaited. Its prototypes were called "Bloomfield" and it will probably kill off the Core i7-920 model.
The processor is built on the 45nm manufacturing process and its four cores run at 2.80GHz. It has 256KB of L2 cache memory per chip and an 8MB L3 cache. It supports Hyper-Threading and comes with eight threads in total. It also has an integrated triple channel DDR3 memory controller that will enable the CPU to be paired with large amounts of high-speed, top-tier memory.
There should be additional performance gains using Intel Turbo Boost technology, and Intel has said that the Core i7 has extra features, such as the Enhanced Halt State, Extended Stop Grant State, Deep Sleep State, Deeper Sleep State and Deep Power Down for those who think actually turning it off is a bad idea.
Intel's Core i7-930 is currently listed at the price of €254.86. µ
.13 more ghz and better tech for 5 more dollars. looks like my new choice.
This is just the replacement of the i7-920, and intel makes no secret of it and has been telling this way in advance, it's just that their socket 1156 parts are suppose to be the lower end of the market so the i7 range needed to be adjusted a bit.
And the 930 will be the same price as the 920 which reportedly will be phased out now.
Meanwhile the first gulftown 6-core is also spotted, the $999 one that is, and later cheaper ones will be the actual new generation, with some of the tricks from the i8xx range added to the 6 cores I hear.
There's no conspiracy here, it's just a normal open adjustment of their offering, and the list of features are the same as the 920 just a boost in speed, it's just the press repeating the standard features as if it is new stuff that confuses people.
I agree that it's nothing much to see, but it IS news. This is the price of lack of competition. I'm sure Intel will release this at a premium and hold the price up for as long as possible. They'll make back the billion dollar pittance they paid AMD in no time. It must be nice to be able to buy justice.
Releasing a processor based on a 2 year old part just with a +1 multiplier value is not even worth publishing as news.
...an i7-870 but with triple rather than double channel memory controller? Wow - colour me unimpressed.
Still, something for the LGA 1366 crowd I suppose.
Because AMD will not win the benchmark as expected, I'm going to buy this processor as my new customized rig.
