SOFTWARE HOUSE Microsoft has issued yet more Windows 7 updates to plug some holes in its operating system, including games and Media Centre patches.
There are a host of minor non-security updates for the client and server operating systems but the biggest release is to plug incorrectly installed games or applications.
The first games fix is KB 976264 and the Vole has links to a Windows 7 32-bit patch and a Windows 7 64-bit patch amongst others. The problems stem from certain incorrectly installed legacy games, applications or firmware updates in Windows 7 and Microsoft lists all problem games here. The Vole expects that installations on a huge list of games will cause system instability. It also states that the primary functions of the game, application or firmware will not work correctly.
Microsoft tackles Windows 7 Media Centre issues with the KB 977863 fix. This is a February 2010 Cumulative Update for Windows Media Centre for Windows 7 and comes in two options for Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit. These patches should improve the overall experience for systems that are configured by using digital cable card tuners, resolve backward compatibility issues for some legacy Windows Media Center extensibility applications, resolve an issue with how recorded TV shows are managed when switching to a user locale that is based on the Hijri calendar, and improve the overall experience when you use Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB) tuners. ISDB is a Japanese standard for digital television and digital radio.
Windows 7 has already received more bandages than an Egyptian mummy so this slew of updates isn't much of a surprise. At least these problems are being addressed now and this issue isn't specific to Windows 7. Not that this should make you feel any better, given that most of Micrsoft's currently deployed operating systems are suffering from the same problems. µ
Strange that the author should suggest that Windows 7 requires a lot of patches. I make it roughly a 5th of the number of patches of a current Linux OS, and of course yo uhave the advantage that Microsoft on average release security patches much faster than the Open Source OS world....
Plants vs Zombies is compatible with most Windows 7 installations even before the patch.
Half Life definitely works in Windows 7, although I've not played through it all yet.
The only incompatible game I've found so far - under both Vista and Windows 7, is GTA 1. It seems to be an Nvidia driver issue so should be fixed in the future.
I can always on this site and it's readers to provide an ignorant view of the computer world. I wonder how many of you l33t haxors have actually installed and used 7
My thoughts exactly. Other than "Hello world", there isn't an program, OS or application on the planet without bugs. Period. I for one am glad to see MS finally addressing problems instead of ignoring them as they were known to do in the past.
Also, A BIG part of the problem here is legacy software and Games. Norton 360, ESET Smart security and Nero 8 were the newest things I saw in the list. Most of the stuff in the list is old, not to mention a lot is obscure. I didn't see D.I.R.T. anywhere in the list btw. This is what happens when ppl expect backwards compatibility forever. Go fish! Pop and Drop? Really? Save your Losedoze, Winblows or whatever clever 3rd grade flame name for something with more substance.
So that's the reason my dirt kept causing win7 to crash..... sheeesh. I'm starting to think WINE might be more stable... :(
..or blind stupidity?
Which OS can I buy/download that never needs a bugfix please? I've no need to defend Microsoft (and neither the need to haha, chortle, call them "micro$uckozr" etc - timeless joke that it is..) but really, patches for software are a fact of life period.
Maybe Micr0$ucks will release Vista SP3 and call it LoseDoze 8. Sorry to all those who own the slightly downtrodden stock that is M$ - I forgot that "bashing" Micr0$ucks is frowned upon.
I will say three Hail-Bills and five Oh-Steves before I go to bed tonight as penance for my sins.
If everything else in the world is perfect, then why is OSX past version 10.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.
People need to grow up and realize that there will always be bugs in everything no matter what. The only software with no bugs is either WAY too simple or has not been released so that the bugs can be found.
UNIX has bugs, Linux has bugs, BSD, OSX, Windows, etc...
If having a bug means it sucks, then EVERYTHING including the PS3, 360, Wii and on and on and on all SUCK.
more evidence that this is an unfinished 'beta' product.
they have a barefaced cheek to ask people for money for it
