Samsung launches its first LTE netbook

MWC 2010 Calls it the N150
Mon Feb 15 2010, 13:31

KOREAN ELECTRONICS GIANT Samsung has launched its first Long Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity netboook at the Mobile World Congress (MCW) in Barcelona.

Samsung used its own Kalmia LTE modem chipset so it could squeeze the LTE capabilities into the 10.1-inch netbook size of the N150. It also comes with an integrated digital Livecam, internal microphone and headphone-out connection for video-conferencing, live messaging and VoIP telephony.

According to Samsung the N150 offers up to 8.5 hours of battery life thanks to an energy-efficient display, optimized processing performance and enhanced battery life features. We'll be testing that claim when we get our paws on one for review.

"The N150 is the smart choice to meet all your essential mobile computing needs with style," said Kyu Uhm, Vice President of Samsung IT Solutions Business.

"We see increasing demand for data services, regardless of whether the consumer is indoors, outside, or even on the move. With our end-to-end Total Solution from core chipset to a variety of devices, we are providing true value to our customers."

Samsung said the N150 with LTE will be available in markets with HSPA 3G communications and WiFi access but didn't reveal details of its planned rollout, citing only that it will be down to "market demand." In other words, you're going to have to wait until your telco operator is ready to deploy next generation networks.

Roll back to this time last year at MCW when Samsung unveiled Mobile WiMAX and LTE for 4G, but this is the first time we have seen a Samsung netbook with LTE. µ

Only for Sweden and Norway

LTE is only relevant for Sweden and Norway where they have LTE or 4G mobile networks. For UK mobile operators have not even deployed 3G or HSDPA in full and we are struck in 2G with WAP & EDGE data connections. Maybe some killer 4G Apple Iphone using LTE or WIMAX may give some incentive to mobile networks and government to move forward to 4G.

A good Intel Pinetrail Notebook.

If this product have been equipped with Intel Wimax and Intel SSD, this product is going to be a prefect notebook.
