Coppers demand explanation for Itunes scam

Apple miffs the Japanese

JAPANESE COPPERS have demanded that Apple explain why it has been charging customers for music that they never downloaded.

According to AFP, apparently Itunes has been playing banzai with Japanese customers' credit cards and the authorities are investigating. In at least 95 cases in Japan involving five major credit card companies, Itunes customers said they had sometimes been charged thousands of dollars.

An official with Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency said the numbers of cases have been increasing since last Autumn. The damage inflicted appears to range from several dollars to several thousand dollars per consumer.

In one case, "a woman who registered her ID and credit card number on the music download site several years ago but hadn't used it in recent years received bills of purchases that she wasn't aware of."

Punters have to turn over their credit card numbers to Jobs' Mob before their Ipods and Iphones will run his digital jukebox. It was assumed that the data was safe.

If it is not Apple nicking the cash then it is someone who has breached Apple's 100 per cent secure, hacking-only-takes-place-at-Microsoft, Itunes security system.

Of course Apple is not saying anything. It never comments on anything that might be bad news.

At the moment the problem appears to be limited to Japan, but fanbois elsewhere might not have noticed. After all they are used to giving Apple hundreds or thousands of dollars for sod all in return. They see it as part of the charm of buying Apple gear. µ

Maybe it's their kids?

Maybe their kids have been buying songs on their parents accounts?

This happens on Sony's PS3, where you register a credit card once to buy a game online, and forever more there is never a confirmation each time you buy something. It never asks for any of the digits, expiry date, address, or anything else to check that the purchaser is the card holder.

I bet there are many parents all over the world who have complained to Sony about this.

My advice is to complain loudly enough to your credit card company about Sony's/Apple's lack of security checks and you WILL get a full refund.

Apple wants more

Maybe thats just Apples way of telling people they have not spent enough money at Apple, ie they replaced there own ipod battery instead of sending back to apple.
This is why I bought and Imac and then sold the Imac. They are just money grubbers always looking for more.
Not having a replaceable battery is a safety issue as well. There has been twice over the years when something has gone wrong and I have had to pull the battery to kept the thing from overheating and starting a fire.
Just another reason to stay away from Apple.
