France falls under Internet censorship

Zut e-laws!
Thu Feb 11 2010, 14:45

THE FRENCH PARLIAMENT has buckled under pressure and approved the Sarkozy government's authoritarian plans to censor the Internet.

The government opposed all objections to its plans to filter Internet sites, which have been controversial throughout French society. Today La Quadrature du Net, a French openness group, said that the action would give the government total control over its citizens' access to the Internet. It added that Nicholas Sarkozy was using excuses to clear a path for his rules, whch ultimately would come at the expense of liberty.

In a statement it said that the announcement had come out during a debate over the planned French security bill (LOPPSI), adding that during discussons the government "opposed all the amendments seeking to minimize the risks attached to filtering Internet sites."

Jérémie Zimmermann, a spokesperson for La Quadrature du Net, said that any censorship should have been trialled before being approved, explaining, "The refusal to enact Net filtering as an experimental measure is a proof of the ill-intended objective of the government. Making Net filtering a temporary measure would have shown that it is uneffective to fight child pornography."

"Protection of childhood is shamelessly exploited by Nicolas Sarkozy to implement a measure that will lead to collateral censorship and very dangerous drifts."

Liberté, égalité, fraternité indeed. It's almost enough to make one wonder if St Helena island is still in French hands. µ

Warning Warning

Australia is doing the same. It's clearly a global co-ordinated program to stop people learning about the Global Government currently being set up - the New World Order.

Tyranny is about to befall us all. Preventing pornography excuse and pretext to limit rights and freedoms to dissent the coming political and economic tyranny.

Wake up before it's too late. Stop watching TV, stop talking football, stop the interest in inane celebrity. Your lives are at risk.

Illusion

Freedom is not doing what you want, it is doing what is right to accept and accomodate all people. Everybody needs to accept and reach consensus on issues. In South Africa, the media cannot be censored, it is against our constitution because we learnt the hard way during apartheid, where white people in our country were not even aware of the war that was going on, because the Apartheid government had such heavy censorship on the media. Sarkozy is playing is hand to censor the media, to help him win the elections. A win for him is a win for Crime in France. So where is the freedom - he is doing what he wants with only the criminals in mind and not the rest of the people. So what is to say that if the media is controlled and he rigs the elections, the people of france will ever know...

References to China are bogus

First of all, France does NOT = China. China has nothing to do with the ruinous Zionist wars in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia. China is not a party to the ruinous Zionist IMF and World Bank. China actually, unlike France, was against the firebombing of Gaza.

The West moans and groans constantly about China's lack of press freedoms whilst having been (until now when it's too late!) under the illusion it has them! But if that were true then why would the governments be so afraid of the internet?

The West restricts the internet to continue to lie to its people. China is forced to in order to protect itself from the lies of the West.

Re:"Our country has all the characteristics of a dictatorship"

Um, if you're still sleeping in your own bed at night, then I think there are a few characteristics that are still missing.

Not that I'm complaining about it, mind you.

Option for foreign wars

Foreign military adventurism has always, but always, been based on lying to one's own people.

In the history of relations between the state and the people, the people have always been shut out of the process of whether to go to war, but have always been taxed and conscripted for them.

Now that the `unwashed` people have access to the heaven sent invention called the internet, we, the people, can more and more decide whether we shall be taxed and conscripted for these proven war criminals known as heads of state.

And that is the struggle; the people on one side against heads of state - representing the private globalising centralising banksters, on the other.

Sarkozy may not yet be a war criminal, but anyone in that position interfering with the people's right to know everything they want and need to know about their govt's activities can only have great evil in mind to do.

To freeman

I'm French, and yes, it is becoming a real dictatorship. Sarkozy has got all the power, and the main problem we have is that none realize (or so few that there cannot be any rebellion, except from those "violent groups" he describes and stigmatize, which can't be helpful to make people realizing how undemocratic are theses new laws against minorities and freedom).
He controls 3 of the 4 main TV chains (not only TF1, but also France Televisions, as its director is designated by the "Head of the Government", lets say Sarkozy, since 2008), many radios and newspapers, and now, he wants to control the internet...
Our country has all the characteristics of a dictatorship, with police and army repression against everything that could be a danger for Mr's power...
But let's see what will happen in next regional elections!
(Sorry for mistaking!)

Internet responsibility

Remember how the internet started? What has become of it? In this regard everyone bears a responsibility, It is time to reflect how and where we want to go with it, ultimately we become slaves of what we abuse. As with all mankind's traditions naturally our leaders evolve into despots, dictators, tyrants if our minds are filled with darkness. We live in a just universe and we should live up to its high standards. The answer to internet censorship lies with us.

Those who would...

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Yet more evidence of Europe's decline.

Sarkosy

Isn't it obvious to everyone in France what kind of person Sarkozy is? He will undoubtedly have alterior motives to his censorship. Everyone in France should hit the streets until he is forced to resign.

New maginot line

In france we had the Maginot line known for being unbeatable cough, cough.
And since we are clever and learn from history we decided to do the same thing and now we have the new generation national filter and we should call it the great eMaginot firewall this should stop every french but the criminals (since they use proxies vpn etc..)that this law was supposed to fight against. In short it will be as useful as the first line :)

Government on internet

Im french, and i can tell you how stupid is this law. The French government just want to control the only media where there are no controls, Internet... For example in china, they take porn-site and this stuff as an excuse for blocked a LOT of website like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc. France is becoming a dictature thats all, come here and you will see,Sarkozy has a full control of the Assembly, and the 1st TV Chanel of the country TF1. And each of everyone of us know that a dicature start on Media controls ... We are self-called the country of Liberty, but just look at our freedom. Big Brother is comming to us, 1981 start here...

@ Antoine

As an American I agree with the stupid movie part but not about to many freedoms.
Try not to confuse freedom with lawlessness. Most country's have fought for there freedom, and we don't miss is it till it's gone.Unfortunately there are people who take advantage of those freedoms and can ruin it for everyone.
I don't own gun and I think people should have the right to bear arms. The problem with that is too many of the wrong kind of people have guns.
If we give up one freedom, almost certainly other freedoms we had will be taken away. Freedom has always had a price and always will. I you where to block the word "sex" for example, you might also block any content involving sexes and the differences between boy and girl or the medial use of sex or any number of unforeseen problems. If you are a parent it is up to you to use a blocker for the internet. I have watched porn and it didn't make me a murder or a rapist or any other kind of criminal. I don't think blocking porn sites will make any difference in society.
Bad people will still be bad and good people will still be good. If they block porn sites then what will they block next? Do you really want someone else to make your decisions for you?

When the going gets tough

The tough gets going.

I am from Quebec, so half way there in terms of French angry bulldog gene pool.

I applaud their niqab initiative and this as well. Too much freedom is not a good thing except in stupid american movies.

French Revolution 2.0

@Integr8d - I think the French know a thing or two about chopping of their leaders' heads when times get rough. Franc's score for revolutions is 1-0, while here in America it's 1-1. I'm counting the Civil War, or course. :)

Don't worry, France...

When it comes time to throw your rotten government out, we will be there to help you (probably having had to throw our own out as well). If we have to take cruise ships and show up with hunting rifles, just save us a few eclairs.

Your fat, stupid and lazy friends from abroad,

The Americans
