KEYBOARD AND MOUSE VENDOR Logitech has added another wireless set to its range, boasting that the pair have a three-year battery life.
The firm said that the MK710 mouse and keyboard combo offers three years of battery life regardless of whether you are checking your emails, updating your Facebook page or just doing a little bit of shopping. So hardly using it at all then.
"No one thinks about changing batteries until they have to, but when that time comes, it can stop you in your tracks," said Rory Dooley, Logitech's senior vice president and general manager of its control devices business unit and a master of stating the obvious. "With its industry first, three year battery life for a combo, you might just forget the Logitech Wireless Desktop MK710 uses batteries at all."
Logitech estimates the three-year battery claim by working out that this will involve an estimated 2 million keystrokes in an office environment. Which makes us wonder why it keeps going on about social notworking and online shopping.
The keyboard and mouse pair are designed to be used with laptops, which probably explains why they will last so long. After all, they don't look particularly portable, and we don't think working users will hammer their personal sites while using them.
"Laptops are great for mobility, but are not the most effective solution for staying comfortable and productive throughout the time you spend on your computer," said Yehia Oweiss, Logitech regional director for the UK and Ireland. "The Logitech Wireless Desktop MK710 combines several features that help you get the most out of your laptop, no matter where you're using it, including an industry-first three-year battery life."
Have we mentioned it has a three-year battery life? Battery life is based on individual usage. Logitech might think about keeping that bit quiet, but then it really wouldn't have much to say. µ
...what a bullshit, useless headline. Maybe a record holder. This just in... Samsung to release monitors with some sort of cable or two sticking up the back!
Really?
I have a couple of VX Revolution mice. They are brilliant products.
i've had Logitech keybs witha normal layout for over 10 years. I've tried other of course but alway come back to Logitech as i've never had a single fault.
However, after looking round theire site they do seem a bit miserly with information, on any product, AND quite overpriced. I didn't mind paying a couple of quid more for a Logi keyb or mouse, but now their prices are silly, effectively double that of their competitors (but not double the quality or features) - and according to their own website there is no such thing as the MK710.
I think i will be looking much closer at their competitors and much less at Logitech
A bit like this stupid logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse does then every time I need to access the machines settings at boot time, as the devices don't do anything until the operating system starts.
My logitech keyboards have had proper layout for years. You make the call. I dont recall what my first 2 were (entry lvl and mid range a bit after that) and now G15.
No complains. But I agree I do hate the awkward layouts, layout i've encountered mostly on Dell keyboards from around 2-3yrs ago
Can you even recharge it or will need to send it back to logitech and wait 2-3wks for the battery to be replaced?
...a Logitech keyboard without the ridiculous non-standard layout copied off Microsoft. You know the one where they messed about with the layout of the insert and delete keys?
Microsoft changed back a while ago, I'm glad Logitech have followed.
If Logitech really wanted to impress, they would release a keyboard that charged itself from the user's key presses, and required no battery change at all. (I'd go back to using a roller-ball mouse if that worked on the same principle).
