Google unveils social notworking site
ADVERTISING BROKER Google has announced that its Gmail product will get social notworking features.
The move is designed to fend off competition to Gmail and Gchat from Facebook and Twitter. Dubbed Google Buzz, it will allow users to quickly share messages, web links and photos with friends and colleagues directly within Gmail.
Google has released some products designed to make its social networking features work on mobile devices too. But it all looks the same as Facebook to us and is appearing just as interest in the social notworking fad is starting to fade.
This is the second crack that Google has had at getting into social notworking. The outfit's Orkut social network has been big in Brazil but has failed to attract as many English speaking users as Facebook and Myspace in the US.
The move is pretty unlikely to make a dent in the market. Google is following in the footsteps of Yahoo, which also built social notworking functions into its email product to keep up with Facebook. No, we don't know anyone who uses it either. µ

Gmail should be fined for helping spammers. I have an email address I rarely use , therefore It receives almost no spam....UNTIL I started to sell a couple of my personal items on Craigs List.
Craigs List lets you run a free Ad and has a feature that will Anonomize (hide) your true email address. BUT I soon noticed all these responses to my ad from Gmail address. I quickly caught on after I replied back to those emails. (when you reply back they obtain your true email address). sure enough they never answered back to my reply to actually purchase the item , and my spam box started filling up!(all they really wanted was my true email address to ad to spam list)
now I just put the statement in my ads "Will NOT respond to Gmail accounts"
It works !
Google it for yourself.
And it's "notworking" because so many people are "not working" when at work. Instead they are looking at those sites.
I have an idea that would combine twitter and facebook to make something even better, and new. But even less work would get done, so I'll leave it as a thought ;-)
