FEBRUARY IS THE cruelest month, at least for ex-Sun Microsystems chief executive Jonathan Schwartz, after he signed off from his role at the company with a haiku on Twitter.
The former head honcho must have been in a wistful mood to choose such a unique, and somewhat melancholic, way to leave his role.
Who knows, perhaps it could set off a wave of poetic scribbling in the rest of the IT sector. We've come up with a few of our own.
On Apple's Ipad launch:
New device for you / really just a big Ipod Touch / you'll buy it anyway.
On Google threat to leave China:
We said don't be evil / China does not agree with us though / so we'll be off then.
However, while we were impressed with Schwartz's haiku effort, something in the style of Private Eye's in-house poet might have been more fitting.
So, farewell then, Jonathan Schwartz, Former CEO of Sun.
You tweeted,
Your goodbye in a haiku,
On twitter,
How clever.
But now I fear
The sun has set
On your career,
At least for now.

So far they responded quickly and replaced all 'sun' with 'oracle', but apart from that the java.sun.com site is the same as always, and the information link says all will remain except they will add oracle stuff, and project kenai will be merged to java and discontinued for public use.

So it could be worse and there is hope, although statements made now might change in a year, you can't trust those decision are stable after a takeover as you might know from experience.
I've got to say Sun was a great community member.
Ponytail certainly took JAVA to some very difficult junctures. Few believe that he had McNally's vision, business sense or leadership. I am a little sorry to see JAVA go, but it will now be in a 'far better place'. God save us all from Larry Ellison!
If he had discontinued SPARC development, Sun Microsystems is becoming a happy Intel's customers.
