GADGET MAKER Endless Ideas has announced its Bebook Neo, following earlier launches of its Bebook Mini and Bebook One. And Asus has announced an e-book reader as well.
Endless Ideas said that its latest release was built to reflect user feedback and boasts some good features.
The firm said that the 6-inch Bebook Neo uses the latest E-ink technology, meaning that it is almost as good as that other stuff, real ink applied to paper, and it added that the unit's battery will handle up to 7,000 page turns on a full charge.
The Bebook Neo's use of the Freescale processor means that it offers faster browsing, roughly 2.5 times quicker, and improved operating speeds. For frustrated artists, the Wacom touch screen also enables sketching, while business users can use it for making notes or, if you prefer, doodling and annotating.
An ebook portal will let users buy books from wherever they are in the world, the firm said, making the Neo ideal for travellers. It supports the EPUB, PDF, TXT, HTML, RTF, MOBI, CHM, PDB, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF formats.
The Neo is open and expandable, and although it is not set for release until late next month, the firm is already promising updates, including one to its firmware. According to the Bebook site it will cost £279.
Meanwhile, over at Expert Reviews you can see pics of Asus's DR-50, a 9-inch e-reader that is thinner than an Iphone, although we prefer to say "thinner than a novella", and weighs less that Amazon's Kindle, though again we prefer, "weighs less than the bible".
The DR-950 has a 9-inch screen with a 1,024x768 resolution display. Sadly, it appears to have support for only black and white text and images. Like the Neo, it uses E-Ink, which helps contribute to its power saving features.
Again, like the Neo, it will support a number of file formats, including PDF, HTML, TXT, Audible, MP3, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP, and includes a web browser. One interesting feature is its text-to-speech technology, which will let you use the reader to tell you bedtime stories. If, that is, you fancy being read to by a bored C3PO.
The ASUS DR-950 is estimated to be priced at around £250 and expected to appear this Spring. µ
I thought it was Stephen Hawking that was the one telling the stories?
Jokes aside, I'm waiting for the day when you can have the voice you want, with the proper inflection telling you the story. How'd you like to go to sleep listening to Will Smith telling the story about Hansel and Gretel? Or however you spell those names.
