MICROSOFT CHAIRMAN Bill Gates has joined Twitter, alleviating the frustrations of all those people around the world who want to know what he eats for breakfast.
Gates' joining coincided with the site being down for some time, prompting industry watchers to speculate whether this was the Bill affect. Other, more sensible commentators suggested that the outage might have been down to an earthquake aftershock in Haiti. Either that or Oprah mentioned it on her show. What we can be sure of, though, is that it wasn't the result of Bill saying anything particularly interesting.
Gates joined last night, apparently, and has a verified account - which usually means that the twitterer is the real McCoy. So far he's only tweeted a couple of times, including a couple on the earthquakes in Haiti, as well as the obligatory 'thanks' message to those others who have welcomed him to the cult of twitterers.
"Thanks to you and all the other people who have welcomed me. I've got a lot to learn about Twitter but look forward to sharing more," said Bill.
Bill is following some 40 other tweeters, including hot young actress Ashley Tisdale, the Whitehouse, as well as Microsoft and the Gates Foundation.
It's good to keep on top of things, eh Bill?
There are several Twitterers each claiming to be Bill Gates. Could you please tell us which is the real one? So I know which one to avoid.

I thought Bill usually does brunches. Breakfast?! That's blasphemy!
Isn't it obvious?
The Earthquake was caused by Bill Gates joining Twitter! And the site going down was godly intervention.
Just try and prove me otherwise! :P
Seems that microsoft will yet buy another idea..
1) French and German government security agencies advise against using Microsoft's Internet Explorer due to vulnerabilities that were exploited during the Chinese attack on Google.
2) Computer manufacturers are now producing volumes of netbooks, smartphones, and "slates" running non-Microsoft OS's, and advertise the security advantages of this to customers.
3) Bill Gates "suddenly" appears on Twitter to chat up the crowd.
Coincidence? Perhaps not. It seems like every time Microsoft gets in a real bind, they always try and play the Gates card. Probably too little, too late, though.

"All of this social-networking that made it big in 2009 does nothing good for anyone. Why do people honestly care about what Bill Gates eats for breakfast. Rich, It is a very SMART Virtual Operating System for Global Operating Devices too, when Bright Sparks start Following and Exchanging Stealthy Steganographic Tweets. Imagine a Transparent New World Order Programmers Intelligence and Information Supply Chain, for that is what Primed Twitterers can and do Share in CyberSpace in CodedD Messages. No wonder Billy Boy is putting his toe in the water.
And suddenly the world becomes a better place.
All of this social-networking that made it big in 2009 does nothing good for anyone. Why do people honestly care about what Bill Gates eats for breakfast. All social netwoking does is lead to scams, increased illegal activities such as robbery, etc. People need to get a life and see that my above examples are what they are supporting everytime they log into sites like Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. What happened to the good times when sites like Blogger were a place to post serious debates on tech, politics, and other more important than having 1000 "friends"-you-don't-know type information.
The Bill "Affect."
I think a certain "journalist" needs to take some basic spelling and grammar lessons.
And perhaps come up with some original criticisms of social networks too. This whole article feels a bit tired.
