GAME CONSOLES FLOGGER Sony has announced that it will delay the launch of its motion sensor controller for the PS3 until later this year, a release that will put it head to head with arch-rival Microsoft's Project Natal.
According to a report at the Financial Times the delay is the result of a lack of applicable and available games for the controller, which if you haven't worked it out yet, works a bit like a Nintendo Wii.
In this case the controller will work along with a camera that tracks the user's movements as they lurch around their living room. This means that Star Wars games will become more fun, but it will also lessen the lifespan of any tall plants you keep in the vicinity of the television.
"We will continue to work to have a comprehensive portfolio of attractive and innovative games for the Motion Controller, not only from [Sony] but also from the third party developers and publishers," said Kazuo Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, in announcing that rather than be out this Spring the controller will see the light of day - only to be plunged back into the darkness of bedrooms - in the Autumn.
The news follows an earlier announcement that the next installment in the much-loved Gran Turismo series has also been delayed, and follows last year's meandering trail taken by the platform's Home network to release.
Perhaps all is not well on Sony's little big planet. µ
Bill, you should do some research before letting your little mind wander around the internet.
The orange suits are only when there is lots of extra movement in the background (like an entire late night television audience).
AFAIK, no pricing has been announced but, given the number of people purchasing GuitarHero/Rockband accessories, $150-$200 doesn't seem unreasonable for either system. They'll both probably come with a game also.
As far as the Sony stick design, it is obvious you harbor a grudge due to all the women who preferred to go home to their "trusty stick" rather than finish the blind date with you.
Sony had a much easier job copying the wii remote, just changing the position of the camera from the controller to the TV, making PS Eye a true "sensor bar". And putting a pretty light on the stick, which looks like it's made to satisfy lonely women.
Even then, they had to delay. Now imagine this natal thing, which by the way was only demonstrated by guys using a full "con" orange suit, then never seen again. Not to mention that while full body motion capture is exciting, It's very CPU taxing and It's probably dificult to use it and make an interesting game using X360 three headed monkey.
And if you charge a full Wii price for an accessory that still needs an X360 to work, so you have to make twice the investment to the same objective, I really don't see this natal thing float.
Hopefully with the new motion sensor controllers, the PS3 designers will look at the slipping trigger and grip design.
It was ergonomically acceptable playing with a PSone keyboard when you were 10 years old.
But playing with the same controller design and cheap plastic construction 10 years later in the PS3 is truly unacceptable.
Sony, I have ring and pinky fingers too!
