Sony releases Vaio notebooks

Z series Raid
Tue Jan 19 2010, 11:40

JAPANESE PC MAKER Sony has released some Vaio notebooks, talking up their innovative use of quad solid-state drive (SSD) storage in a Raid 0 configuration.

Today the firm said that the Z series of notebooks are pitched at mobile workers who do not want to compromise on performance. With this is mind the machines are slim, light and brimming with connectivity options.

The Z Series notebooks offer high speeds, thanks to the quad SSDs, Intel Core i7-620M processor, 1GB Nvidia Geforce GT 300m GPU and Sony's own dynamic hybrid graphics system. According to Sony, they are built to be tough with carbon fibre and aluminium casings and weigh just under 1.45kg. Mobile connectivity is covered by Sony's Vaio Everywair 3G mobile broadband system, while WLAN and Bluetooth options are also provided.

The notebooks have either a 13.1-inch HD 1920x1080 or 1600x900 screen and thanks to the combination of the dynamic hybrid graphics system and Geforce chipset will make light work of graphics intensive applications. Sony added that the quad SSDs in a striped Raid 0 configuration would let the system write data at 'incredible speeds', however as yet it has not confirmed whether this can be changed into a Raid 1 or Raid 5 configuration.

Fittingly for what sounds like a laptop pitched at BMW drivers, the Z Series notebooks come with a range of optional extras that range from a docking station through a leather case, noise cancelling headphones, and um, a mouse. You can also choose a 'case pattern' for your notebook. We suggest the go-faster stripe.

Whether you are in Italy or not, the notebooks come with the 64-bit version of Windows 7, professional edition. µ

Poorer and Poorer

@Golf Driver!

You are correct, I took the time to sniff out the webpage and yes its not 1900x1600.

I currently tend to believe that its a droid who is adroitly writing these insipide news. Or perhaps a poorly designed neural network, mimicking a rampaging monkey on a typewriter.

Who knows? Dr. Who!

Resolution of display

I think the only real questionable spec is the 1900x1600 optional resolution. I think this is the 1600x900 -- no one uses 1900x1600 and certainly not on a wide screen display.

@ Golf Driver

Instead of bitching and moaning about articles, why don't you go and take your finger out of your ar*e and check the facts before you flame the author...

Had you done so, you would find the facts are correct.

Racist? Get a grip of yourself! Golf Driver? Sounds like you really drive a Kia.

Tw*t!

Poor Racist with lack of attention to detail?

First, why start the article "JAPANESE PC MAKER Sony" what are you trying to say? Do you not think that anyone reading your hokey "blog thing" know Sony, and also know that they are not "just" a PC Maker?

Second, the screen is 1600x900 in resolution, I hate these amateur "blogger" people trying to write articles. No pride in their work, no attention to detail.

Third, just because you don’t earn much money or place your value of what is worth your money in other things, do not try and disguise your envy of the fact we can afford/want such lavish things as “go faster stripes” and drive something other than a BMW.

In summary, you should be fired.

Kind Regards,

Golf Driver
