AFTER THE DUST settled at CES, analysts pondering about what was the best thing they saw there have decided that it was mobile phone projectors.
According to Reuters, these things are going to be really big and soon everyone will want one, apparently.
A mobile phone projector uses laser light to display an image onto a wall. Some analysts think this will be the killer app for watching movies on the run.
At the moment no one wants to see a movie on a mobile phone because the screen is about the size of a postage stamp. However, if the image is projected onto a convenient white wall then it is possible to see it at a reasonable size. The downside is that the picture is not exactly the best.
CES had several manufacturers who had "pico projectors" in the works including Microvision, Texas Instruments and 3M.
Ovum's Jonathan Yarmis says pico technology has a huge potential because it solves the problem of video viewing on tiny mobile screens. Once you "liberate the display from the device" you have the opportunity to make the experience more immersive.
While we can see these ending up in phones, we still can't understand why anyone would want to watch a movie while holding up their phone pointed at a wall for two hours. If your hands shake you could end up a bit sick.
But as we've said before, you can't stop the march of technology. µ
Sexting video for hours would be monsterously rough on the hands.
R2D2 had a holographic projector, and.
he was conveniently shaped like a
dildo.
How swuft is that, eh?
We thought Roxxxy was the belle of CES or near to it, TGdilly's Silvee.
Take my TV to the bathroom. The phone is easier to carry (and to explain if I get caught).
The video conference thing is an awesome second use for it too.
Bring it on!
Just put your 'phone' in front of you can start a Video conference.
That would be nice.
TV for viewing movies? Maybe through phone cable or wifi.
I want music through my hifi, is there an easy way to do this wirelessly?
I want to watch it on my tv, is there an easy way to do this wirelessly?
Why not. Buying a new TV or hifi should mean it can play stuff from my phone wirelessly.
Most cameras on phones sucks so bad that it would be better if the phone has no camera at all. And I bet most cellphone projectors will suck beyond usability.
But if they make a projector, capable of displaying a 20" projection with decent quality and bright, it'll be awesome (just pictured how easy it'd be to show videos to my friends).
Not to mention the possibility to turn a any bathroom into a prOn theater. Oh, I want one of those NOW!!!
Company 'SixthSense' has a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information and lets us use natural hand gestures to interact with that information
They are linking a camera with that projector so that when they do a gesture on their wrist, a watch appears and tells the time. They can also show right on the plane ticket if a plane is delayed.
So I would see it around your neck projecting useful information like that.
obviously people would use their hand to hold the phone for hours. the cost of making a kickstand or removable stand would be astronomical. this technology makes no economic sense and should be canned immediately.
thanks for pointing out this huge flaw that nobody else would have bothered to troubleshoot.
I supposed putting your projector phone down on a table, or chair, or couch, or coffee table, or book, or nighstand, or anything really had never occurred to you...
