Firefox 3.6 release candidate is out

Final version can't be far away now
Mon Jan 11 2010, 13:55

OPEN SOURCE OPERATION Mozilla has put out a release candidate of Firefox 3.6, which suggests that the final version should become available soon.

Today Mozzarella said that the preview software built on the Gecko 1.9.2 engine has already been released to beta users and is available for download through its web site. According to the accompanying material this version is compatible with three quarters of the existing add-ons for Fireferret and more will be added.

So far the new features in Firefox 3.6 include improvements to Personas, which is a one click tool for changing the look and feel of the browser, auto-alerts for out-of-date plug-ins, improved form filling tools, and a number of scripting and language support improvements. For example it includes support for the HTML5 file API and new CSS and DOM technologies.

Other features include changes to the way that third party applications and software can integrate with the browser, which Mozilla said would increase stability.

Mozilla also said it has fixed a shedload of bugs to whip this next version of its flagship web browser into shape as a release candidate.

In a blog post, Melissa Shapiro of Mozilla added, "This release candidate may update itself periodically, and will eventually be exactly the same as the final Firefox 3.6 release itself."

We give it a week or so before the final version of Firefox 3.6 will be out. µ

I'm not a PC, I'm jUst a tool

All in One Sidebar seems to be available as "the third and probably the last development build of 0.7.11", i.e. nearly ready for "Fx = 3.6". I don't see anything about development of TimeTracker but you could contact the guy. In both cases you could also offer them the price of a drink for their work, or whatever amount is respectful, but then again drunk programmers aren't necessarily the best.

Sucks less

...due to the new JavaScript engine, apparently.

Over on Linux, gone are the days of Firefox eating 100% of a CPU and grinding to a halt, and present are the days of Firefox still eating 100% of a CPU but remaining completely responsive. Which is a significant improvement.
