Robot inventor spends Christmas with his creation

ROBOTICIST Le Trung bought his "dream girl" to meet mum and dad over Christmas.

Nothing unusual about that other than the fact that she is a £30,000 robot called Aiko that he built himself. Le, 34, from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, even bought gifts for his dream girl. She speaks fluent English and Japanese, helped cook the turkey and hang up decorations.

"Aiko is like any woman, she enjoys getting new clothes," he said. "I loved buying them for her too." We are not sure how he worked that out but we guess he thinks that if she is a female shape she must like clothes.

Aiko, whose name is Japanese for 'love-child' has an artificial intelligence that can speak 13,000 different sentences. She can recognise faces and says hello to anyone she has met, which we think could get a bit annoying.

Unfortunately she can't walk, so we are not sure what help she was with hanging the Christmas decorations. She is also high maintenance. Le has built up huge debts working on Aiko. He suffered a heart attack two years ago caused by stress building her. Love does that to you.

She has silicone skin and a real-hair wig. Her body knows the difference between being stroked gently or tickled. If you grab or squeeze too hard she will try to slap you, which is a bit harsh. She has all senses except for smell which is handy if you see the state of a single boffin living alone's coffee cups.

New App!

Brilliant! She now needs to be picked up by some American or British reality shows and see if someone falls for her or maybe Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or Mike Lazaridis should also incorporate her software in the next Gen phones or OS systems. GF or Wife 2.0? yes?

This guy has been watching too much Chobits...

...although, that said, I'm surprised he didn't just cop out and call it "Chii."

Still, naming it "Aiko" is just as suspicious - it's Japanese for "love child".

at a threhold

It's unfortunate that this man has no real world skills,. Yes he built this AI sex toy for himself, but will this be a future trend? God help us all.

Sad ....

Ok, so he wanted a petite asian lady and really wasn't going to meet one (because he spent his life in a dark room with too many computers). Surely he could have just bought a real woman online for less than that? She would have really been able to cook too.

Sad.

This guy needs help

His research may eventually prove interesting in the field of artificial intelligence, but somehow I doubt it.
What is certain is that this guy needs help, fast.
A robot that likes to shop for clothes ? Excuse me, does he really think he endowed it with feelings ?
The day we really actually make an AI worthy of the name, we might be surprised to discover that it prefers talking with computers.

Somehow I suspect he is for real.......

.......in seeing her/it as an alternative to a real woman. That's even sadder than those who pay a "lady" to pretend to be theirs for an hour or so.

There is undoubtedly some scientific interest in this type of R&D but if anyone sees any social benefit in this then I feel sorry for them.

What hath man wrought?

The inventor is lucky that he suffered only debt and nervous breakdown. Many have fared worse.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
