BEANCOUNTERS at IDC have been shuffling their tarot cards again and have come up with a claim that not only has the PC market recovered from the recession, but it will grow like crazy again.
According to IDC worldwide, PC shipments returned to positive growth in the third quarter of 2009 with an increase of 2.3 per cent.
Consumer portables grew the most, with shipments increasing 33.5 per cent. Meanwhile consumer desktop demand remained weak.
Looking at the tarot cards, IDC said the market is expected to quicken the pace of growth in 2010.
Most of the growth will be in the emerging economies which will make up half total market, IDC predicts. It thinks that there will be double-digit growth for 2010 in emerging markets while mature markets are also expected to make steady gains.
Desktop shipments will remain flat in 2010, while portable PC growth of 18.1 per cent will continue to drive overall volume gains.
IDC is also predicting that the commercial sector will rebound in the second half of 2010.
All up things will look good on the financial front, IDC claims, but there is no tall dark stranger who will sweep anyone off their feet. µ
PC sales to grow again
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again
PC sales to grow again!
What everyone seems to forget is that most businesses have been sitting on their hands for a LONG time. I work at one that still has well more than 20% of the company still running on it.
There is going to be a MASSIVE flood of PC purchases in the first 6 months of next year and it is not from Joe 6-pack
By switching to a 'new way of counting', Gartner had to MASSIVELY DOWNSIZE all reported sales form companies like Acer
In a bid to 'add a bit of Xmas boost' to the market, Gartner can simply go back to its old methodologies*...
...and predict a +30% increase in PC shipments for 2010
:~)
Shirley that's good news for anyone !
* Before you 'bust a blood vessle, remember that these methodologies were the basis of invoices totalling MILLIONS of dollars a year - so don't laugh out loud;~)
I've nick'd with
the joo-joo eyeball
the monkey finger
the walrus gumboot
the muddy water
the mojo filter
And one thing
I can tell you is
it's got to be free
Or somebody will have the devil to pay
