Fring rings in video changes

Free video calls on Iphones
Wed Dec 16 2009, 15:05

THE MOBILE APP Fring, which helps users communicate over their mobile devices, has today added free video calls to its service.

The firm said that Fring and Skype users will be able to talk with their contacts using the Iphone or Ipod Touch, with the added benefit of video. Fring's boss said that the service was the first of its kind for the platform. However, given the positioning of the Iphone's camera on the back, the video will be a one-way thing which, depending on what you want to use it for, might be a bonus.

The firm, presumably full of the Christmas spirit, or spirits, believes that the tool will improve the holiday season for everyone. Avi Shechter, co-founder and chief executive at Fring, said, "Leveraging excellent video capabilities on the Iphone and Ipod touch together with our open Internet and social environment, we're bringing together families and friends these holidays, wherever they are."

The new version of Fring is currently available for the Iphone and Ipod Touch OS 3.0 and a number of Nokia Symbian S60 devices as well as thousands of handsets running multiple OS platforms including Symbian S60, Android, Windows Mobile, J2ME and Linux devices, the firm added.

Fring, like Skype, offers free voice calls to its users, and connects to other services like Gtalk buddy lists and traditional phone lines. µ

I think the new App will be....

iViewXXX pay per view XXX powered by Fring. Ok, not likely with Apples controls, however since it seems that for the most part it'll be one way video...to the iPod or iPhone no doubt that someone has already had this thought and will start looking for a way to use it....

.

I can imagine that brain-storming session when they needed to come up with a name for the software.
"It's got to have a "ring" to it"
"ring, yeah right. F****ing ring"
"oh, wait.. I got it!"

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
