HANDSET MAKER Sony Ericsson today announced more entrants to its green portfolio, two phones and a handsfree kit.
The firm said the announcements cemented its commitment to its Greenheart strategy, which it had kicked-off in June this year. In all, the firm expects further changes to its product range to aid it as it seeks to lower its carbon emissions by 20 per cent and its product lifecycle emissions by 15 per cent.
"Building on the established heritage of our parent companies we have worked continuously to maintain our leadership position by committing to reduce our own CO2 emissions by 20 per cent and product life cycle CO2 emissions by 15 per cent by 2015." said Mats Pellbäck Scharp, environmental director at Sony Ericsson. "The Sony Ericsson Elm phone, Sony Ericsson Hazel phone and the VH700 (handsfree kit) are a testament of our continued commitment to the environment and are part of the ongoing roll-out of our GreenHeart strategy," he added.
The Elm and Hazel phones come with a range of green credentials, ranging from their use of recycled components and materials to their lack of hazardous chemicals. They also have eco-features including a green calculator, a Walk Mate eco-application and minimal packaging.
Steve Alder, general manager of Group and UK Devices for mobile operator O2, which will offer the phones to its customers, added, "Offering Sony Ericsson Greenheart phones to our customers has been a part of our strategy to integrate sustainability across all our products and services thereby helping our customers reduce their environmental footprint. As an industry it is essential we embrace innovation in this area and incorporating greener credentials across our product portfolio is certainly a focus for us moving forwards."
Both phones will be shipped with the aforementioned handsfree kit, according to the firms, and support GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA 2100/900 connections. The Elm will come out first, in the early part of next year, and the Hazel will follow in the second quarter.
Each comes in a range of colours, the names of which we can't bring ourselves to publish. µ
Well, lovely news from Sony Ericsson, but what about all the dirty origins of the various raw materials used to make the components? You know: the stuff mined in Africa at just about the right distance away in the supply chain for Sony Ericsson and pals to claim that they "knew nothing" about it.
And as for the clown who has "debunked" global warming by reading the Torygraph, feel free to move to the village where the various Torygraph columnists all seem to live and help them out with their gene pool issues.
As per your recommendation, I googled it. The first hit I got, in the telegraph of all places, explains why it means nothing. The quick summary, for those too lazy to read or think, is that a semi-colon in fortran is a comment, and all code that uses this variable is commented out.
Or did I just fall for a troll?
That's why weathermen don't lose their jobs when they're wrong.
then how do you debunk climate change? the ice caps are melting and local climates in certain areas are changing and are not constant? second research done was poor research... this is like saying there is no such thing as ebola virus and neither does std kill...
