Floods in Asia

KOREAN MANUFACTURER LG Electronics is planning to release more than 30 new handsets over the next six months.

According to Digitimes, LG is flat out making handsets in a bid to up its share of the market.

Digitimes thinks that this is part of a Far Eastern push and capture an additional 15 per cent of market share in 2010.

Finsen Chen, vice president of telecom business at LGE Taiwan, said that of the new handsets planned for the next six months, over 30 per cent will be touch-enabled models and over half will support 3G technology.

Many companies are starting to look to Taiwan, China, and Vietnam as markets that could kick-start future sales.

LG seems to think that the best way to do this is to flood the market with lots of handsets and then if anyone buys something there will be a good statistical chance that the gadget will be one of its devices. µ

Well well well

Nokia are only realising that this approach just doesn't work any more.
