IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED a writ from the Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia in the last few days you must be about the only person on the planet.
Top mobile phone maker Nokia has filed lawsuits in Britain and the United States claiming that a number of leading technology firms are running cartels for mobile phone and monitor displays.
Nokia said its lawsuits followed government investigations in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, and other civil suits already filed in the United States.
It is not clear how much the outfit wants from the various companies it is suing but it is clear that it is going for large amounts of money.
Named in the lawsuits are AU Optronics, Hitachi, LG, Philips, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, Toshiba and many more. µ
The Inquirer is "Facts and Friction". If you don't like the friction then this is not the place for you.
Apple is just a business, selling products, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less.
It's funny how humans can be attached to a corporation. I sometimes feel it too but then I tell myself not to be so weak, it's only a product and I am more than that! ;-)
Well, I’m a fan. :)
What is your point Deanjo?
This has nothing at all to do with technology licensing, it's about LCD price fixing. It's just a pity Nick didn't wander far enough from his romper suit to research and the story and present a few more facts.
Have a look over at "The other place", they have a better report.
Remember this Nick?
"It is not patent trolling either. Nokia has already successfully flogged licenses to 40 companies, including virtually all the leading mobile device vendors. Only Apple claims that it invented the technology it uses in the Iphone itself and has refused to pay up."
I can't help but notice how much less this is sensationalized then when Apple was being sued for the exact same thing by the exact same author.
Come on where is the line,
"AU Optronics, Hitachi, LG, Philips, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, Toshiba and many more to get a free ride on the back of Nokia's innovation."
