Eurocom unveils portable server

Notebook packs in Xeons and 2.5TB of storage
Monday, 30 November 2009, 17:37

PC MAKER EUROCOM has taken the wraps off its latest high-end notebook, which it touts as a mobile desktop or server.

The D900F Panther supports an Intel Core i7, i7 Extreme or Intel Xeon 5 series LGA1366 CPU, up to 12GB of DDR3 triple channel SODIMM memory, a 1GB GDDR3 Nvidia GTX 280M graphics chip and can house up to four hard drives giving you up to 2.5TB of storage capacity across four 640GB drives. The drives can set up in RAID 0, RAID 1 or RAID 5 configurations and you can also opt for up to four 512GB SSDs at a substantially higher cost.

There are a load of optional extras as well including a higher resolution 17-inch display, a Blu-Ray drive, an internal TV Tuner, a webcam and several operating systems to choose from.

You also get all the usual WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, HDMI, DVi, eSATA and USB ports thrown in.

"It's a server or workstation-calibre computer complete with built-in Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) in a 12pounds notebook form factor," said Mark Bialic, president of Eurocom.

"This is one extremely fast notebook that offers server or workstation calibre capabilities. It is designed to replace traditional desktop based workstations. It offers incredible high ROI by allowing companies to be more productive and offer new 'on the go' CAD/CAM services while greatly reducing overall IT management costs".

Measuring 15.8 x 11.9 x 2.05 inches and weighing about 12 lbs, you're not going to want to carry this around with you too much, but starting from about £1,500 and working its way up to a whopping £11,677 with every bell, whistle and accessory available, the lightness of your wallet should help balance out the extra weight.

The full specifications of the Eurocom D900F Panther can be found here. µ

Not the first... But still sweet...

Sager had released an almost identical system at the begining of the year, the only difference being that it held 3x hard drives instead of 4.. The Sager NP9280..
