Dell custom builds Chromium

Mini 10v netbook gets a bit of shine
Mon Nov 30 2009, 12:56

TIN BOXMAKER Dell has made available a customised download of Google's Chromium OS for its popular Mini 10V netbook.

Dell released its download on Friday, giving US Mini 10V netbook owners a holiday weekend project.

All you need is a spare 8GB USB flash drive. Once downloaded, simply move the image onto the flash drive, plug it into your Mini 10V and play with it.

Dell is warning that its version is pre-beta and therefore completely unstable. Some users have whinged that the WiFi support is rather pants. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes to find a WiFi access point, apparently.

Still it boots up in 12 seconds. Not much you can do with it when you get there, but it does boot pretty fast.

Dell's pre-beta developer version of Google's Chromium OS can be downloaded from Dell's Linux website. µ
