ACCORDING TO insecurity firm F-Secure there is a new Iphone worm on the loose and this time it has a worse payload than a picture of 80s popstar Rick Astley and some poor spelling.
As with its predecessor, the Ikee worm, the virus only affects jailbroken Iphones and those users who have not changed their password from the default, that is, people who thought they were more technically minded than they actually are.
So far it's only affecting a minority of users, but according to the firm is "much more serious than the first Iphone worm as it seems to try to steal information from the devices."
F-Secure added that it had botnet functions that were connecting to a web-based command and control centre in Lithuania.
Graham Cluley, security expert and blogger at Sophos, donned his crime fighting suit to add, "Two weeks is all it took for a jokey Rick Astley worm to be adapted into something which creates a criminal botnet and [is] apparently designed to steal money from innocent users. Some may have thought that the Ikee Iphone worm was a one-off. Some people might have imagined that lightning wouldn't strike Iphones more than once - but they were wrong. And one thing is certain - you can be sure that if hackers find they can make money out of poorly-secured jailbroken Iphones, they will continue to attack them."
Fittingly the virus has been dubbed, "Duh". We expect more users to say the same when their Iphones get infected and they suddently remember that they never changed the password. µ
This or a similar virus hijacks normal Iphones and makes them unusable.

I do believe this hole appears because users don't change the standard password for ssh. And although, I dislike the Iphone, ssh has to be added by the user - it is not shipped with the iphone so just jail-breaking it wont be enough
Those people choosing to go against the Apple advice of not jail-breaking their iPhone or iPod Touch have nobody to blame but themselves. Break down the security and thieves come in, simple as that. Oh and those same people will soon not be able to upgrade their phones. "Duh" is the right word!
