Sapphire Radeon HD5970 hits European shops
THE GERMAN-LANGUAGE price engine Geizhals.at has begun listing AMD's soon to be launched Hemlock graphics card. Formerly known by its X2 suffix, the card now carries the moniker AMD Radeon HD5970.
Unsurprisingly, these particular retail cards are manufactured by Sapphire, which has been more or less the case with every new Radeon launch.
The card specifications were also revealed this way. The dual-GPU titan isn't twice the card the HD5870 is, but rather a slightly downclocked version with dual 40nm GPUs running at 725MHz, dual 256-bit memory buses with 1GHz GDDR5 (giving an effective 4GHz data rate). The cards are dual slot, as was predictable, have dual DVI-I, HDMI, and are listed as having mini DisplayPort.
It also seems that AMD has plugged in an integrated 7.1 HD Audio controller "that supports CrossFireX", so it looks like the AMD did listen to the users' gripes and did it the easy way.
So, here’s a small breakdown of the specs on the HD 5870 and 5970 cards.
German etailers are putting it close to the €500 mark, which was not unexpected either.
The SKU is part number 21165-01-50R from Sapphire, in case you're planning on ordering a few hundred. Although unconfirmed, we've heard that 26th November will be the launch date. Our agents are on the case. µ

The memory bandwidth listed for the 5970 is clearly wrong... Since the clocks are lower.
It looks to be a 5850x2 by another name. The memory banwidth is 128GB/s not the 153.6 GB/s found on the 5870. It makes me wonder how many shaders are enabled on the 5970, 1440 or 1600. It has a 6 and 8 pin connectors and 13.5 inches long. Although it seems to be a killer I cannot wait for the X4 cards.
