MOBILE MAKER Nokia has kicked off a charger exchange program, offering free replacements to anyone with a potentially dodgy charger.
According to Nokia, during a routine quality control process the company stumbled across the defect. The problem apparently is that the plastic cover comes loose exposing the internal components, with potentially shocking results.
Affected units include the AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between 15 June and 9 August, and the AC-4U model, manufactured between 13 April and 25 October.
Although Nokia branded, the chargers are manufactured by one of its third-party suppliers and it is thought that around 14 million units are in service.
UK Nokia users have nothing to fear however, as none of the potentially defective chargers have been sold domestically in Blighty.
Nokia has set up a dedicated website for those who wish to see if they need to send off for a new charger. µ
What about all the "Dodgy" chargers when they moved over from the tried and trusted "big plug" style to the stupid small plug type? I had to purchase 3 different units before I found one that is still working to this day (over a year later), and this unit is not a nokia made or branded unit
That problem was made in China, but Nokia will take the konsekvense like a man and not like an Apple.
I only hope that they would start to add possible costs like this when they choose their partners.
And add some 1000% to the quality control for Chinese components.
