COWER MORTALS, at the deluge of smartphones on the horizon all vying for a place in your pocket.
Currently making the news and due to land at some point the near future are the Nokia N900, the Motorola Droid and the HTC HD2, not to mention Acer's three new touchscreens.
Acer's upcoming Betouch e101, Betouch e200 and Neotouch span the range of budgets, basically meaning its going to get bloody as they fight it out for market share.
There has been a lot of hype over the Motorola Droid, which launched early in New York today. Whether it will benefit from being the first to market remains to be seen although much has been made of its Google mapping feature. Currently it's the only Android 2.0 phone out there and is expected to come to the UK, renamed Milestone, next week.
Like the HTC HD2, the top-end Neotouch from Acer runs Windows Mobile 6.5 and has Acer's own custom UI running atop it. The phone boasts a 3.8-inch resistive touchscreen that supports a resolution of 480x800 pixels, making it potentially quite the competitor, although there don't appear to be any plans to bring this to the UK soon.
The Nokia N900 and the HTC HD2 are being pimped over here as the most wanted phones for this holiday season, a heady title indeed. In fact most reviewers seem to pip the HD2 slightly ahead of the N900. The HD2 brings to Windows Mobile the HTC Sense user interface and was due out today from T-Mobile UK, but apparently some confusion has arisen, meaning it's been delayed slightly.
The N900 is due later this month, while the Neotouch and the Droid are already available overseas. µ
"expected to come to the UK, renamed Milestone, next week"! Really? Says who?
move along nothing to see here. come next year when tegra or tegra 2 find its way into phones then we will see things really take off. Android 2.0 with tegra support anyone? i wouldnt buy a phone now wait till u see what people will do with tegra then compare. as much as Im not a huge fan of nividas buisness pratices tegra will be good for phones
@zone are right, the tegra are good. Just wonder what took them so long to stick a tegra into a phone and sell them...
What? Some people buying Windows Mobile? Really? Don't make me laugh?
Who would want a Vole in their phone?
@Ken,
I do, I own a WM and will never trade it for android (not a big fan of cloud dependency), not to mention iPhone, crackberry or similar crap. I am not stylus challenged and I like to actually OWN and CONTROL a phone I use and wm is the only one that offers it at this point next to symbian. Further more, my entire company is wm based and uses directpush for email allowing us cheaper telco rates. But hey go ahead and bash WM if it makes you happy.
Secondly, Tegra? please, its too little too late. Qualcom is releasing QSD8650A as we speak with smartphones with it coming out next year, and we are talking about 1.3Ghz beasts capable of 1080p decoding and integrated 3d with builtin controller for 1200x800 screens and hdmi output. Nothing tegra has is better than whats comming in next few months.
