Fujitsu workers are set to strike

Over pensions, pay and redundancies
Fri Nov 06 2009, 16:07

JAPANESE ELECTRONICS MAKER Fujitsu's workers are planning to go out on strike this month over pay, redundancies and the closure of a pension scheme to new workers.

Trade Union Unite has said its members will walk out next week on 12, 13 and 16 November, following a vote in favour of industrial action. The UK's largest trade union first warned of action in August.

Fujitsu has proposed 1,200 redundancies overall and has announced that it will be closing the final-salary pension scheme to new staff. The company employs a total of 12,500 people at 26 information technology services offices in England, Wales and Scotland.

Unite was also throwing its weight about with HP last month. Unite announced the action over the company's planned changes that would see 150 employees of HP IT services losing final salary pension arrangements and performance benefits worth about £2,000 each.

"Our members are saying enough is enough," said Unite national officer Peter Skyte in a statement. µ
