MANDRIVA announced the release of Mandriva Linux 2010.0 this morning.
Codenamed "Amelie", Mandriva 2010.0 is this year's autumn release of the popular Red Hat based Linux distribution. We'd suspected it was close to release because the Release Candidate 2 development mirrors had stopped updating packages a few days ago.
The dozens of mirror site repositories that support Mandriva are still being updated with the official 2010.0 release CD and DVD ISO files and software packages, but this should be completed some time today.
Mandriva, which is headquartered in France and also has offices in Brazil and the US, hasn't updated its main website to reflect this new release yet, but there's a 2010.0 Tour available, as well as Release Notes to pore over.
Once they've been updated, the mirror sites will have the ISO files for you to check out, and those sites also have general information about how to use the files to try out a Live CD or install the new release. µ

Mandrake, at the time was, based on Red Hat like so many other distributions. But since many years, it is not true to day.
There are, hovewer, distribution(s) based on Mandriva.
It's not 2010 yet... is this some stupid marketing trick to sound ahead of the game when compared to say Ubuntu which has only just put out 2009.10?
It's getting like the magazine racks where it's only just November, but all the December issues are out...
It's all the different distros that are killing Linux. If only they would all band together under 1 distro they could make it more than a novelty. I have Ubuntu 9.10 RC and I'd have to say it is the best by far.
Seeing all the other outfits continue to move foward at a snails pace makes me cringe when I think of all the development talent going to waste making lackluster distros.
The next Ubuntu will change all this I hope.
I know this is supposed to be about Mandriva but it dosen't hold a candle to Ubuntu 9.10 IMO
