The problem with political jokes is they get elected - Henry Cote
THE CONQUERORS OF THE RUMP of the Roman empire, the Turks have declared war on the search outfit Google.
The horse warriors who used a huge cannon to flatten the walls of Constantinople before changing its name to Istanbul have sent their debt collectors around to the mighty Google empire.
Turkey thinks that Google owes it $47 million for supposedly dodging the country's income tax system even though its European headquarters office is in the Celtic nation of Ireland.
Turkish media have been telling the world plus dog that Google is required to pay national taxes for revenue generated in Turkey because it has a subsidiary there..
Apparently the problem is that Google set up a subsidiary called Google Reklamcılık ve Pazarlama Ltd. Şti. in Turkey rather than a 'liaison' branch office.
This slip of the pen means that a chunk of Google's revenue will have to be paid to the Turkish government, it claims.
The Turks don't get on very well with Google. The nation has shut down its Youtube operation several times over perceived slights to Turkish national pride. So chances are that the amount of real money Google makes out of the Turks is about 50 cents and half a kebab. µ
Someone delete the message of the member fuico above . He is just a typical Turkish idiot feeling insulted about his Turkish national pride.
Google should declare an internet war on turkey .Google would win by default from having more international support, so turkey would just take the damage as usual and pay up for mercy.
No surprise really, Google has been doing this with nearly every other country as well.
I am sick of google ads, time they paid up for annoying people
useful for me, they even disturb the view of the page itself, most of the ads are for losers and dummies in the thing they think they are interested of.
yes the language of the article is rather disturbing but let alone, the info is not that quite right. Google TR get ads from Turkish companies but billing from Google Ireland, effectively dodging the tax system which is not legal in any country i suppose. think Turkish company sells stuff in Britain but does give tax since it bills its costumers from head quarters in Turkey ? you should be kidding ...
...in Britain but doesnt give tax since ...:) my bad ... sorry about double post
name: So, by your model, any company selling cross border is operating illegaly because it failed to set up a tax paying subsidiary in every country in which it sells?
Think about that for a few nanoseconds
I think Dr. Dweeb really needs lessons about taxation. Cross border selling is quite legal as long as for goods as long as you pay customs tax and for services as long as it is provided completely out of country.
What Google does is establishing a subsidiary, hiring people and selling services but with a small detail of not issuing any invoices from the subsidiary. The correct way should be issuing invoices from Ireland subsidiary to Turkey subsidiary and issuing invoices from Turkey subsidiary to customers in Turkey. That way Google would pay some taxes from revenues and no one would bother.
As a final note, Nick I'm familiar with your writing style but seems like your words about hating politicians not people or countries in a message exchange happened some time ago between me and you turns out not real.
Good luck with that attitude.
The historical facts referenced in the article are plain wrong. Turks did not conquer Istanbul by leveling its walls to the ground with a big cannon. They did have a big cannon but it was not the deciding factor in their successful campaign. The breakthrough in their weeks long invasion came about when they managed to get their ships into the Golden Horn. Moreover, the name "Istanbul" was commonly used by its inhabitants even before the conquest. "Stanbulin" is Greek for "to the city". I hope that the author did a better job checking his facts before reporting the case about Google.
Google's websites have ads on them? The internet has ads? When did this come to be? I dont believe it!! They're lying! you're all lying! i dont see any ads on googles pages, or any other pages for that matter..
All hail the mighty adblock plus!
