NOW THAT a large chunk of investment money comes from the United Arab Emirates, it seems that AMD wants to shift some of its chip design work over there.
AMD's CEO Dirk Meyer told Emirates Business that the idea of chip design centres in emerging countries like the UAE has legs.
Meyer pointed out that AMD has chip design centres around the world, including India and China, and the capabilities of the Dubai Silicon Oasis present interesting future opportunities./p>
He said it was not so much a matter of if AMD will develop chips in UAE, it is when that has to be established.
AMD hopes in the future to build a fab plant in Abu Dhabi in the UAE at Dubai Silicon Oasis, which is an integrated technology park for the microelectronics and semiconductor industry.
Meyer said that Chimpzilla's top priority was to deepen its partnership with ATIC and Global Foundries, which continues to make sure that infrastructure in Abu Dhabi gets ready for a fabrication plant in the future. µ
The sentence "...to build a fab plant in Abu Dhabi in the UAE at Dubai Silicon Oasis..." is like saying "to build a plant in Manchester in the UK at London Wembley Stadium".
Dubai & Abu Dhabi are completely different cities, moreover - different states within one country.
what is this ending in
"[...]present interesting future opportunities./p " ?
is it a HTML left-over or a "tongue-in-cheek" sign ? or some fancy smiley (rotfl perhaps ) ?
i think they still use notepad for the html
I thought AMD just spun-off all of theirs, why start building them now?

Deepen its partnership with Global Foundries? Wasn't it much deeper before?
