Powercolor Radeon HD 5870 LCS

Liquid glory for gamers
Friday, 30 October 2009, 17:21

NOT ONE to just stick with the reference kits, Powercolor has announced it'll be launching a liquid-cooled version of the Radeon HD 5870 by November 6th.

The PowerColor Radeon HD 5870 LCS graphics card replaces the standard dustbuster with a sleek slim EK waterblock, although the card’s bracket is still a standard dual-bracket on account of the multiple display connectors.

The company suggests you'll get more overclocking mileage out of the card, although out of the box it is pretty conservative in terms of factory settings at just 25MHz/50MHz more than the reference design. For Powercolor’s sake, let’s hope you can turn up the dial a bit more. Contrary to some waterblock designs, the EK cooler covers both the memory and the all-too-important power regulation chip. You can still hook it up to a second card as the quadfire connector is freeee, freeeee.

You still get Dirt 2 for your troubles.

Here's the money shot:

If you fancy the idea of a silent ultra-powerful gaming rig, then you've got one of the building blocks right here. No price was announced, but Danger Den is selling a competing block for $99.95. So add the numbers when Powercolor gets around to talking about the price and see if you think it's worth the cost. µ
