Nokia delays N900 again

Until November now
Tuesday, 27 October 2009, 14:50

NOKIA HAS DELAYED the launch of its keenly anticipated N900 smartphone for the second time, until November, but has not yet revealed the exact date when it will release the phone in retail shops.

Nokia fans will have to wait up to a month longer for the N900, and the Finnish handset maker is not giving a reason for the delay either. However Play.com is telling its customers that it expects to have the phone on 20 November.

The N900 was first delayed in August and the launch was put back to October. But Pete Schneider, Nokia's head of Maemo marketing, has now said, "We expect it to start shipping during November 2009."

The N900 has attracted enthusiastic acclaim ever since it was announced. In September Nokia announced a competition pitched at inspiring developers to make the most of its open sauce Maemo software.

The N900 is also apparently one of a new breed of 'ultramobile devices', or smartphones to you and me. ABI Research predicts that the market will ship 385 million of these ultramobile devices by 2014.

The research firm also says smartphones are the product category to watch since the segment is still emerging. It reckons that a common design will likely be the tablet form factor, with other models featuring slider keyboards, clamshells, and touchscreens expected to grow in popularity as well. Just so you know.

If you're eagerly awaiting the launch of Nokia's N900, you can view our video of the N900 in action to keep you going until late November. µ

When was it ever supposed to come out in August? It was announced in August and the information at that time was that it would come out in August. Just read the original press release...

Its good to see Nokia finally release a new breed of their communicator series, I just hope it won't turn out to be another "average" phone.

Neverending delays

The N900 may never appear, the Nokia flagship store in London has a twitter page. Yesterday they had a notice that the N900 would be on sale this Thursday November 19. This morning November 18, that post has been removed. Other sites too are reporting yet more delays.
