Chip sales will be better next year
CHIPMAKER TSMC said that it expects its 2010 sales to surpass 2009 as the industry heals itself.
Chairman and CEO Morris Chang predicted that the global semiconductor industry is likely to return to the heady days of 2008 by 2011.
However he warned that things will not be fully recovered until 2012.
TSMC is so confident that it will distribute a bonus of $14.21 million to employees next month. It might also have a rethink on its salary freeze.
Chang said that recent purchases of fab equipment indicate that the chip industry is recovering. He told Digitimes that the industry is improving from a rapid fall in the second half of 2008, but many sectors have yet to see their shipments return to 2008 levels.
He thinks that there will be a negative growth in the overall semiconductor market for 2009. µ

Perhaps because by then we can expect chips clocked faster? Based on the progress we're used to, 3.4 Ghz stock just seems so slow these days.
