Toshiba flogs Windows 7 Satellite laptops

On the bandwagon
Thursday, 15 October 2009, 16:10

TOSHIBA'S Digital Products Division has unveiled a range of Satellite laptops pre-installed with Windows 7 and boasting the latest Intel and AMD processors.

"From faster performance and extended battery life, to simplified navigation and connectivity and new ways to share media, Windows 7 greatly enhances the PC experience," said Carl Pinto, a vice president of product development at Toshiba.

"With Windows 7 and our new laptops, people can get innovations they can see and touch."

The Satellite U500 Series falls into what Toshiba describes as the "fashion" range of laptops for style-conscious users. The devices have 13.3in high-definition wide-screen displays, a textured finish and an emphasis on multimedia performance. The laptops are available in four colours - Luxe Red, White, Pink and Brown - weigh about 2.2kg and boast dual-core Intel processors.

The Satellite M500 Series, meanwhile, is pitched at mobile workers, and comes in colour schemes described as "Red Onyx, White Onyx and Black Onyx".

Also due to start shipping soon is the Satellite P500 Series, which the firm said would make suitable desktop replacements. They offer 18.4in wide-screen HD TruBrite displays, Harman Kardon speakers, DVD drives and edge-to-edge displays, and either Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion II processors.

One unit from each range, the Satellite U505 Touch and Satellite M505, are touch-screen units which Toshiba said will allow users to tap, drag-and-drop and scroll through files, web pages and images.

The new laptops will be available from 22 October to coincide with the launch of Windows 7. Prices start at around £300 with Windows 7 Home Premium. µ

Style, my arse...

"The Satellite U500 Series falls into what Toshiba describes as the "fashion" range of laptops for style-conscious users."

It's plastic, some metal, etc etc... I will never understand how that becomes a fashion item or why you would pay more for a computer based on it's "style"
