Acer recalls Aspire notebooks

Overheating and over here
Monday, 12 October 2009, 11:08

ACER IS RECALLING some of its Aspire notebooks after reports that they overheat.

The outfit has made clear that it has not been ordered to carry out the recall by any government agency yet.

The affected units are Acer Aspire models AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG manufactured prior to September 15, 2009.

The problem appears to be that the microphone cable might overheat when extreme pressure is applied repeatedly to the left palm rest. This reportedly causes the unit's case to become deformed and the system may malfunction.

Acer said that it will replace the microphone cable in the affected units to eliminate any risk of overheating.

It wants people who own one of its Aspire notebooks to visit its customer care website and tap in the serial number of their machine to see if their unit is affected and needs to be serviced. µ

One of these is in my wish list

I plan on getting the Acer Aspire Timeline AS3810TZ-4880. I call it a poor mans Air and has great battery life, much better unit than a netbook. I still am, it's good Acer is fixing this but a microphone wire, how could it overheat.

Don't buy one

I did and it failed 8 days after purchase (left hand side connectors ceased to function and no sound) it was sent back to acer (actually a dell repair centre I think) where after three and a half weeks they still haven't fixed it. They have replaced the motherboard and sound system once tested it and found it didn't work and are trying a second time amazingly each time they have to waiting four or five days for parts to carry out the repair.

If you want a computer that you can only use less than 25% of the time you own it buu an acer otherwise don't.
