MSI X610’s notbook

Daily Wibble Thin, light and plugged to a wall socket

ANANDTECH shows off MSI’s X610 thin and light notebook. MSI is CPU-agnostic, as you know, and they put an Athlon Neo MV-40 inside. The CPU doesn’t really shine through, but the GPU does offer much better functionality than your standard Intel IGP. Battery life however, could be better.

PC Perspective has a review of Gigabyte’s mother-of-all-X58-motherboards, the GA-EX58-Extreme. You have the best of both graphics worlds on this board, too and massive overclocking ability with a serious power phase design. Radical cooling solutions also abound on this board.

Tom’s Hardware posted its best gaming CPU – October 2009 update. The article concludes with a CPU hierarchy chart so you can clearly see where your options fit in the equation.

Benchmark Reviews tries out the nMedia HTPC 6000B case. It fits both ATX and micro-ATX but it becomes a bit messy routing all the cabling inside. You’ll notice that photography on high-reflection surfaces is no picnic.

Legit Reviews erm, reviews an In-Win Maelstrom case. In-Win has imposing ‘brute-force’ cases that impress on sheer weight and bulkiness, but the Maelstrom takes it a step forward with a massive amount of airflow, a bit like the HAF series.

Audio devices aren’t the focus of most hardware sites, but concept speakers that look this good can’t go without a mention. XS Reviews fawns over the Teufel Concept E300 5.1 speaker system...

Core i7 on the move might sound a bit like overkill, but laptop makers are taking it seriously. Clevo has the new W870CU, a massive Core i7 desktop replacement of a thing. You can find it at Tech Report.

Guru of 3D reviews the Odin Plus 700W PSU. Odin is Gigabyte’s range of PSUs and this particular kit provides stable and efficient performance even under heavy heavy loads. Apart from a shortage of power connectors, Hilbert had only good things to say about it.

OCIA tests Thermal Right’s T-Rad2 GTX VGA cooler. This heatpipe+dual fan setup is slim and fits most modern graphics cards. The dual fans emit low noise levels but if they pumped through more air, no one would complain.

We like watching TV on our PC, it’s simple and it works. Thrusted Reviewz checked out the Asus My Cinema ES2 750 PT/FM/AV/RC Hybrid TV Card. Apart from the cheapo remote, the device works as expected, but quite honestly why *haven’t* we seen Nettops with this bundled TV cards?

Bjorn 3D tests Gskill’s Ripjaw DDR3-2000 memory kit. These new memories fit the bill on the P55 chipset. Raymond says it’s a great match for his Lynnfield and can get the perfect overclock out of the system. µ
