A GOOGLE BROWSER PLUG-IN can speed up Microsoft's Internet Exploder 8 to nearly ten times faster. But Microsoft doesn't want you to use it.
Google's plug-in, called Chrome Frame, was released earlier this week and improves Javascript rendering speed dramatically, according to benchmarks performed by Computerworld.
Computerworld ran the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark suite for IE8 with Chrome Frame and without the plug-in three times, then averaged out the scores. On average IE8 with the Chrome Frame plug-in was 9.6 times faster than the Vole's IE8 on its own.
Interestingly, IE8 with the Chrome Frame plug-in runs just as fast as Chrome all by itself. In fact Computerworld tested all of the major browsers and found that Chrome was the fastest of the lot.
However Microsoft has scrambled to ruin Google's party, and warned users not to download the plug-in because, and you'll like this, it potentially compromises Internet Explorer 8 security, as reported by Ars Technica.
In a statement, Microsoft warned that the plug-in could make its browser less secure, because it allegedly increases opportunities for malicious behaviour.
"With Internet Explorer 8, we made significant advancements and updates to make the browser safer for our customers," Microsoft huffed.
"Given the security issues with plug-ins in general and Google Chrome in particular, Google Chrome Frame running as a plug-in has doubled the attach area for malware and malicious scripts. This is not a risk we would recommend our friends and families take," asserted the Vole defensively.
Whoah! Is Microsoft suggesting that there are just as many malicious scripts and other exploits that attack Google's new Chrome browser as there are that target Internet Exploder? Somehow we really doubt that. µ
Of course the plug-in is a security threat! Chrome Frame increases IE8's speed by 10x, so malware damages your PC 10x faster as well!
See? Microsoft isn't lying! ¬¬
I cannot stop laughing, this is the most mean and vicious thing I seen in a long time.
From what I had briefly read google is installing chrome into internet explorer as a plugin, so users run Chrome with a familiar Internet Explorer menu/tool bar.
The most cunning part is that exactly the users that don't care about browsers speed and security and keep using IE6 against all reason are targeted.
They will most likely say: Allow this addon to install, i know who google is and i think is not malicious code.
Also developers will find much easy to require chrome frame then support IE6 thus forcing 13% of users to use chrome unknowingly.
Also since script can only be used live from google servers they can 1 day change it to pop up a full chrome browser and leave IE with some plain text message to check chrome.
Of course Microsoft is raging, they payed billions in fines to keep IE in Windows and now google is literally hijacking it from inside.
But Micro$$oft is right about the security, users are exposed to IE+Chrome security issues witch is less secure then IE alone.
I personally would rather use a browser that is not integrated and entwined in the code of the OS itself (such as Firefox, Opera or Chrome). Sure, you can delete the ability to visibly run IE8, but the "guts" of it still are woven throughout Win7 (or IE7 in Vista)...so even if you think you uninstalled it, you would be wrong:

So, I guess that leaves Linux for those who want to browse the Internet safely (or using other browsers under Windows if you must, to be a little safer).
Yeah, well, how silly is this.. Firefox alerts me to having an old Flash plugin and give me a link. As I try to install it, it blocks the Adobe page from installing.. No matter, firefox is not a browser it's an updater, because that's what it do 99% of the time. Time to go back to IE8. Speed issues?! It alwasy works and it's fast and versatile. Those guys that complain must have some pretty sucky illmanaged computers, but it's funny to hear them whine. Keep it up.
I tried IE8 with WinXP and it was slower than corn syrup in the middle of Winter.
It was the worst version of explorer I've ever experienced.
I had to wait forever for websites and pages to load and a lot of them would not load or be found.
So I reverted back to version 7.
For Shame Microsoft, for Shame !!
You people should know better than that!
It's not that Chrome doubles the number of exploits, it's just that it runs existing exploits 10x as fast! :)
Anybody who really cares about security isn't running IE anyway.
I hate all browsers cus they all got an ET phone home function.... and Chrome is worse by miles. IE 7 & 8 are donkey driven and Fireferret is just too cool for me and rather slow and ugly.
SRWare Iron - trust Germans to do it right!!!
All this from the wonderful makers of MS Bob, Vista, and all of the other products they've knowingly released with MAJOR potential problems.
Dear Microsoft team...since when has security been an issue when $$ is involved ?? Your operating systems are the automotive equivalent of shipping a car without a transmission and then saying ' Don't worry...we'll fix it in just a bit. Use it anyhow. "
Thank ( insert your deity of choice here ) for open source operating systems.
sell you MS shares and head for the hills.
The end is nigh...
I've little time for Google but to be able to sneak standards into MS though its normal virus port is, well...well titterworthy with massive guffaws soon to follow...
Since Chrome Frame works on OGGTV, the IE users can watch open-source video directly in their browser.
The Chrome Frame plug-in gives IE users access to HTML5 video, and the VLC video plug-in.

For some reason my PC doesn't like IE7 or IE8 for that matter. Simply won't recognise that I have an internetlinje directy attached to the system the second those two browsers are installed. Therefor I'm forced to use IE6 still.
However Google Chrome works flawlessly so that's my farvorite browser atm.
No need for plug-ins.

Geez! Isn't that the argument Apple Fanboys have used for a couple of decades?
Amen brother!
At least it's voluntary. I seem to remember a certain company who used their update mechanism to install unauthorized Firefox extensions.
When someone or some company has to cry about the safety of your "friends and family", you know that it has a fragile argument in its hands.
By the way, this "Add a new comment" form should have a copy of the original article right below this editing box, so I can quote it without opening two tabs. Fix it already, will ya.
...but it's still a turd. IE8 stinks! First time I've had a browser that actually locked up my computer. And this happened not once but several times. I guess the same moronic team that designed Vista infested IE8 development also.
M$ get your friggin' act together!
