Ballmer gets a pay rise
THE UNDERSTATED Microsoft CEO Steve "There's A Kind Of A Hush" Ballmer is such an asset to the Vole that the outfit has given him a four per cent pay increase.
Microsoft also raised Ballmer's salary by four percent at the start of fiscal 2009.
On his watch the software maker's profit has dropped 17 per cent, but to be fair the economy fell off a cliff about this time last year and he was saddled with trying to flog Vista.
Microsoft's sales dropped three per cent to $58.4 billion this year, the first time its revenue has declined since it went public in 1986.
Meanwhile the Vole decided that Ballmer's salary should rise to $665,883 from $640,833, according to a preliminary filing Friday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
He is still waiting to hear about his bonus for this year, apparently. Last year he got a $700,000 bonus. Microsoft has not said what Steve got in 2009 bonus, stock awards or other performance-based pay in this draft of its proxy statement.
Since Ballmer owns 408 million Microsoft shares worth more than $10 billion his salary and bonus are relatively small potatoes. µ

Surely, $640,833 ought to be enough for anybody.
I think he should forsake the raise entirely, and just get the "666" part tattooed on his forehead (that could serve to better identify the value system of his and his company to potential consumers).
$665,883 is insulting, he should get at least $666,666.99

Microsoft shareholders will be happy to vote in favour to rise Ballmer's salary and bonus. I hope he will be fine with it.
