SEAGATE ANNOUNCED an addition to its range of storage solutions today. FreeAgent DockStar is a network adapter that lets owners access and share their digital content wherever they are.
The adapter is designed to work with the firm's FreeAgent Go portable hard drive and adds an additional three USB slots for other mass storage devices. In order to access its content users simply access their 'own personal storage cloud' while the application of feeds means that friends and family can see when any content is updated or shared across a number of social notworking sites. So if you like, it is something of an easy-to-use consumer NAS device built for the Web 2.0 generation.
The FreeAgent DockStar network adapter is available immediately through Seagate and online retailers and costs about $100. However users have to subscribe in order to make the most of remote access, which is enabled by Pogoplug service from Cloud Engines, which is currently priced at around $30 a year. UK pricing has not yet been confirmed.
Seagate also announced that it has extended the range of its Go Portable drive capacity options and has introduced 1TB, 880GB and 750GB versions. These too are available now, the firm says. µ
I accept the criticism and I apologise to Mr Neal.
I read the article and was interested in the product, but I knew that I would have to go and find more specs. Somehow that frustrated me.
I don't normally do @ posts, but I can't resist.
Q. Is it NAS or a docking station
A. "A consumer NAS gateway" Second line in the page, larger than normal font, just under the title.

First google hit takes me to:
http://www.informationweek.com/news/hardware/peripherals/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=220000768
Which describes the device and shows up the missing info in the article.
instead of crapping on him, i will just quote relevant parts of the review to answer his questions.
"A consumer NAS gateway"
" it is something of an easy-to-use consumer NAS device"
- So its a NAS
"FreeAgent DockStar is a network adapter "
- Network adaptors connect to networks.
No you dont need to read about it somewhere else, and I am willing to debate weather you are reading this site.
Is it NAS or a docking station, does it connect to the PC or the network? Must I read about it somewhere else? In which case why am I reading this site?
