Facebook hits 300 million users
FACEBOOK has breached the 300 million user mark and is heading towards profitability, according to founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The social networking site now has an online population equalling that of the US, although the company did not say what percentage of that population had active accounts. However, the service is now making a profit.
"We are succeeding at building Facebook in a sustainable way. Earlier this year, we said we expected to be cash flow positive sometime in 2010, and I am pleased to share that we achieved this milestone last quarter," said Zuckerberg.
"This is important to us because it sets Facebook up to be a strong independent service for the long term."
The company said that its users spend a total of six billion minutes on Facebook every day, and that 40 million users update their status at least once a day.
Around 70 per cent of the site's users are outside the US, and residents of over 180 countries visit the site. µ

Who does he think he's kidding? I think they should be forced to reveal the number of users who have logged on this week, plus the number who actually did some updating.
As for positive finances, you've got to wonder where he got those figures from too :-)

An Iraqi man who witnesses said shouted abuse before throwing a shoe at a US army vehicle was shot dead on Wednesday in what the American military said was a suspected grenade attack.
Residents told an AFP reporter in Fallujah that Ahmed Latif, 32, whom they said was mentally disturbed, insulted the soldiers as they patrolled in the centre of the city, and then hurled a shoe at them.
The US military told AFP that a convoy in Fallujah had been attacked with a suspected grenade.
"Positive identification of the attacker was made, and US forces fired in self-defence wounding the attacker," the army said in a statement.
"Local Iraqi police secured the scene and transported the wounded attacker to a local hospital for medical care," it added.

I myself have an account, but then again I checked it 3or4 times this year; Why I have it? Dunno, just 'cos.
Also, what accounts are actually human?
My mother has two - One for her Chow Chow and one for herself.
It only takes 300 million users to start turning a profit! haha
