Google polishes Chrome 3.0

More stable release out
Wed Sep 16 2009, 13:40

GOOGLE HAS RELEASED version 3.0 of its shiny Chrome web browser, which it claims offers faster browsing, user interface improvements and more stability.

Chrome is just over a year old and Google has made 51 developer, 21 beta and 15 stable updates, and patched some 3,505 bugs.

This latest incarnation is apparently faster and is reportedly quick to load pages and web applications. Google says this release delivers 25 per cent faster Javascript performance than the previous stable release.

Chrome 3.0 has more customisable Tab pages that offer more flexible organisation and thumbnail images of web pages that users can rearrange with mouse clicks and pin wherever they want them. Users can now also hide tabs to reduce clutter while keeping favourite pages quickly available.

The Omnibox, Chrome's search and address bar, has been tweaked as well and new icons have been added to help users distinguish between suggested sites, existing bookmarks, and browsing history.

Increased use of HTML5 makes it is easier to play embedded videos automatically without having to use any external plug-ins.

Chrome 3.0 also adds some new themes as well. Shiny! µ

HTML 5 video codec?

With HTML 5 support, anyone know what video codec is being used in Chrome 3?

Polished??? Still no print preview!

How can something be polished when its still missing a core feature of any browser... PRINT PREVIEW! What is wrong with Google. Many people are not using chrome because a lack of this feature. I don't like wasting 3 sheets of paper everytime I want to print something in Chrome. I don't give me that sorry excuse for a work around to use the print driver's preview. This needs to be fixed.
