DELL LOOKS SET to introduce a new ultrathin laptop that is even slimmer than the Adamo model unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show at the start of this year, although details are sketchy at the moment.
The company has issued a teaser regarding the new Adamo By Dell concept, which is said to be just 9.99mm thick, and posted an online image purporting to be the system viewed edge-on to illustrate just how thin it is.
However, no other details were forthcoming from the firm regarding specifications, weight, or any hint of a delivery date.
A spokesperson for Dell said that no other information is available, but promised that "more is to come soon". She hinted that the ultra-slim model is expected to arrive "sooner rather than later" in response to requests for further details.
The current Adamo measures 16.4mm thick, rivalling Apple's Macbook Air as the thinnest laptop on the market. It has a 13.4in screen and weighs about 1.8kg, while Apple's is noticeably lighter at 1.36kg. µ
"IBM invetend the PC market, how have Apple changed anything?"
Goodness, what sh$tloaded Fick Fartel have done with TheInq readers base...
Since when did apple have a monopoly on a laptop being thinner than the ones produced previously?
on that basi as IBM with their ThinkPad brand pretty much set the bench mark for laptops, surely the Johnny come lately Apple boys are just pale imitators of the might think pad.... oh, boy so you shaved a bit of a Mac book pro here and there!?
Get some perspective!
Apple innovation is a product of thier marketing, Apple havent actaually produced anything that someone hadnt done the ground work for (even their GUI harks back to the work done by Xerox a Alto Parc)
IBM invetend the PC market, how have Apple changed anything?
The next big deal was Sinclair and the ZX range of Home computing, with an honourable mention for the CBM PET.
Yes, they have marketed better, and improved upon previous concepts, but MP3 playes and Phones were also around long before Apples marketing score a hit?
Its all smacks of the great American Auto Makers vs Japanese Auto makers, where yes Henry Ford crated a sesmic shift in transportation in conjunction with Standard Oil, the Japanese refined the concept to the N-th degree!?
The fact someone else has now produced a better (or slimmer) industrial design base for a laptop is hardly plagiarism!?
Its called product evolution!?
... and yet, no Farrell in sight?
I guess he'll repost this bit later, maybe in a week or so, ranting about "Fatty MacApple's not-so-thin laptops".
I got an Everex SA2053-T about 2 years ago that's arguably better than the Acer. It had also cost $600. Dual core 1.67 GHz cpu. On the downside it came with 1GB ram (I upgraded to its max of 2GB) and 100 GB hard drive, though I could upgrade that easily enough. Mine has no webcam either, not that I'd have a use for that. On the plus side mine fits a DVD burner into its < 4 lbs bulk. 8 hrs battery life? Well, not exactly... but mine came with 2 batteries that used consecutively would last more than 8 hrs. I have never had occasion to unwrap the larger battery yet.
Netbooks .... not bad, but I have found it difficult for anything to beat the value of this cheapie thin'n'light from Everex. 36mm thick as opposed to 9.99mm thick. Oh well... I guess I'll continue to make do.
You beat me to it; I was thinking the same thing. My Toshiba doesn't win any skinny contests, but it's very durable. Laptops are expected to take some wear and tear, so I'd hate to see durability sacrificed so it looks "sexy" sitting on the table at Starbucks.
Monkey see, Monkey do, that's what Dell is and will be until another rival comes alone with a little more creativity and innovation like Apple.
I keep seeing these thing notebooks but I wonder how tough they are? I look at this thing and feel like I'm going to break it if I so much as rest my manly hands on the lid while it is closed. I actually had a laptop do that once... How long before the plastic around the hinges gets snapped off and possibly sends a crack across the whole lid? I have had that happen too... I would be afraid to carry something like this inside a backpack or traveling. You would have to put it in some sort of case but that would only make it bigger.
It is probably the sexiest Windows laptop out there. I looked at review of the current Adamo and they got 2hr 45min battery life, Dell says it is a 5hr battery.
Here is a link to a poor mans thin laptop (still sexy looking) and it has a excellent battery life. I am getting one as soon as it start shipping with Windows 7.
