TOSHIBA HAS RELEASED a laptop hard drive that it claims has the highest capacity in the world just now.
Most laptop hard drives can manage 500GB before you have to offload your porn research data to another drive.
Toshiba's MK6465GSX sticks another 140GB on top of that. The downside is that the drive runs at only 5400RPM, which means if you want it fast you should look elsewhere.
The drive comes with an areal density of 817.9Mbit/mm2 and the family of which it is the big but slow daddy will come in 640GB, 500GB, 320GB, 250GB and 160GB models.
Toshiba provides a drop sensor option to help protect the drive should the host system be dropped, or the aircraft you are travelling in encounters turbulence or plummets from the sky.
The big drive is also being released as an external storage line for those who like their hard-drives in bright colours. That USB-powered drive ships in Liquid Blue, Vivid White, Rocket Red and Komodo Green, and it should be available now for $180.
As for the internal drive Toshiba is not releasing an asking price but should be shipping it to OEMs in the next month or so. Since Toshiba ships to Dell, HP, Acer and Asus, among others, you should see this drive as an option if you are buying a machine for Christmas.
Quite why you need to carry 640GB of data around with you, particularly if you want to clear US Customs without a strip-search, is anyone's guess. µ
Who made the title, Toshiba spin doctors or you?
If the former they are just wrong, if the latter you need to do some research...

1TB notebook drive, scorpio blue by Western Digital.
Nick doesn't know what he's talking about. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH.
I think you should have read the following disclaimer that comes with the Western Digital drive:
*750 GB and 1 TB models are 12.5 mm high and may not be compatible with all notebook systems. Consult system specifications for maximum allowable drive height before attempting to install.
Ok, so if you are using a netbook, a tablet PC or some kind of ultra-thin you are SoL, but normal laptops will fit the 1TB without an issue (and a bit of squeezing at worst).
@Damage
I am using a normal laptop. It will not accept an oversize laptop drive.
Unless noted the spec "Laptop" on a drive size means 9mm. With few or none on the market there was no need to design laptops for the 12mm size.
