INTERNET SEARCH outfit Google has inked a deal with Sony to include its shiny Chrome web browser in Sony's new machines.
The deal could be a bit of a kick to Chrome which is running as an also ran behind Internet Exploder and Fireferret. It also lacks a fanatical fanbase who will run whatever Steve Jobs tells them too, like Safari.
Google spokesperson Eitan Bencuya told News.com.au that the deal with Sony will go into effect this summer, but otherwise the company is keeping quiet about the move.
The outfit has been approaching the channel in a bid to make its Chrome web browser more accessible to computer buyers. Well, more accessible than downloading it whenever they might want to try it, possibly.
It is not clear if Chrome will be the only browser on Sony machines. However, since the Japanese company is trailing well behind HP and Dell in the top five vendors by worldwide shipments in the second quarter, we would not have thought it would want to miff its users by forcing them to use a browser that they are not familiar with.
Bencuya said Google is looking at striking similar deals with other computer makers as well. So we guess it is hoping that its browser will be getting installed with all of the other bloatware you always have to delete immediately after you buy a new computer.
Obviously Chrome will also be available to install with the Vole's forthcoming Windows 7 anyway. µ
You have to wonder whats in this for Google. Also why don't they push for it to be put on the Binux distro's
and it left a metallic taste in my mouth.
