IN A BRAVE MARKETING MOVE, gaming giant Eidos is allowing punters to pay whatever they think fit for their latest footy footling fest Championship Manager 2010.
The soccer management sim, which normally retails for £30, can be pre-ordered until September 10th for whatever you want to pay... or a penny. There's a 'transaction fee' of £2.50, but we're not going to quibble about that.
The software will be delivered direct to your desktop on September 11th and we're sure there will be lots of paid for add-ons available soon after that. This whole heroin dealer concept of giving your customers a 'free' taste is really catching on.
The full retail boxed version will come with a notebook and pencil (wohoo), as well as CM Season Live which the company is touting as 'a brand new way to play the game and prove your worth as a manager'.
Ah... there's the catch. The cheapskate version doesn't include the online element. µ
There is only 1 football manager game to play and that is definitely not Champ Manager, although for 1p it is certainly tempting to see what they have to offer.
I tried the link and the buy now button gives me a website fail page of some sorts :-(
Oh well, back to my elite squad with Man City from Football Manager 2009...
Who would want to play a football manager game anyway? I couldn't think of a more boring game concept, maybe that's why they seem to be giving it away cheaply?
goto
www.championshipmanager.co.uk
then follow links it works fine that way
how about synchronized swimming manager.
Why would I pay $2.51 for this and not get the online element? Pretty much every recent game I've ever pirated worked fine, except for the online elements. So they want me to pay for what is essentially the pirated version? That's the whole reason I usually pay for games eventually. I want to be able to play online.
How about give away the basic game for free, then sell access to the online parts, as well as some add-ons?

I am going to miss the good old times. You know, when the whole game, start to finish, was in one disc. And the even older times, when it was technically solid as patches had to be distributed physically, for only very major bugs (NFS III had no bugs at all, Prostreet had millions)
Now, you buy half of the game on the disc, and then you'll have to go through hoops and authenitcations circles to get the other half that's on some server. Have you realized how much half assed are the games of know compared to previous ages?
I 'll never buy such a game, unless it's free. They are a scam
The article suggest that you're supposed to decide the price when you pre-order.
Surely this can't be right?
Of course the correct price can't be determined until after playing it for a while!
It's just like the restaurants where you pay what you think it's worth to you, *after* the meal.
Ohh, this would be that 'other' Football manager game then? ;p
Can i just remind the idiots saying there is only one football manager game worth playing, That championship manager was the original, Football Manager would never have been without it so yes you are right there is only one football manager game and thats CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER!.
If you want a free version of Championship Manager, you should try IT Manager III: Unseen Forces... It includes similar strategy and competitive processes except it is completely free ...
