Our goal is to transform Compaq, and to do it over the next 180 days - Mike Capellas, Q
A SURVEY has found that people surfing the interwibble are as likely to buy something as couch potatoes watching television.
US-based e-measurement firm Comscore and DunnhumbyUSA (hereafter collectively known as HumbleScore) carried out the research by putting ads for typical American consumer items online and analysing what effect they had on a study pool of two million Internet users.
They found that "online ad campaigns with an average reach of 40 percent of their target segment successfully grew retail sales of the advertised brands by an average of 9 percent" and, we assume, also made a lot of people very hungry.
Two thousand of those two million people who agreed to be part of the study were users of store loyalty cards and the firms analysed purchases made at the checkout stand to get their results.
In order to create a control sample only half of those taking part were exposed to a barrage of online advertising campaigns, which ran from pitches for snack bars, juice drinks, cookies and tea to toothpaste. We figure the rest probably just bought those things anyway.
HumbleScore said that over the course of the study sales of approximately 80 per cent of the advertised brands rose by an average of 9 per cent.
Gian Fulgoni, executive chairman of Comscore added, "These early results confirm the ability of online advertising to successfully build retail sales of consumer packaged goods brands on par with the impact of television advertising."
On hearing the news television advertising execs kicked their wastebins across the office. µ
Adverts only work if you see them, I dont. The internet (just like TV) is much nicer without adverts, Firefox + Adblock Plus is a great combination.
how annoying is it when you go to a page and just as your about to start reading/watching/playing an add pops up - infuriating huh, and if it happens often enough you make a mental note never to buy that brand (whatever it's selling).
Like manymany people, adverts are more likely to put me off a product than make me want to buy it. Sometime the add is clearly aimed at stupid people, I'm not stupid, so the product is obviously not suitable to someone like me.
As for these surveys, people who don't like pointless distractions like adverts are not likely to take them, therefore the results from such surveys are completely unreliable.
Have any of you ever clicked on the ad at the bottom of MSN messngers main wiindow ? No, and do you know anyone who has ?
The thing is, most adverts are stupid, so ignored by anyone with a brain - anyone intelligent wanting to buy an item will go and find it, research it, and then shop around for the best deal. God bless the interweb it's great (except for those stupid f**king adverts !
If you don't get rid of that fucking 3D smiley banner ad with the "HELLLOOOO!" sound, I will stop coming to this site completely.
Yeah, that ad is working real freaking well for you isn't it?
Digital ads are illegal, buying over internet is illegal & selling digital service is illegal, buying digital Hardware is illegal,ALL Felonies, since early 1930s' Copyright IS VOID if Digitally Transfered.
Next: Double-Click, If you want to advertise, double click blasts line like noone can, However, doubleclick in peroria isn't doubleclick in Minster. theINQ is Doubleclicked. Those Helloooo are product of Marilynn Philips from Mellon Bank, searching homeless shelters & poor apt complexes for victims' is Marilynn Phillips & ,if you notice that china & france have less language pack acceptance, marilynn Phipps is Smiley from North Korea, So Is LIVE. SNOOPS Abound, ALL with MALINTENT Galore. Would You Open Your Door for "Hellloooo"?
Yet, Internet ads do SELL, Much more than Tv Infomercials that religionist put out. On Internet dealing directly with Manufacturer makes good product available, No Other Source is even close to reliable.
Marihuana Is Scoff compared to intenet RISK. Marihuana can kill You with ancient anotated Law. So one by one or City by city, Ray Goes Out with GUN to Usees' address & they never come back. Quick, Precise & wrong. Whom Would of Even Suspected?

It says that sales increased by 9%. That doesn't mean that the ads are working on everybody, or even most people. It just means that they are having a statistically noticeable effect on sales and business.
So, you can still be in the majority of people that the ads don't work on without the study being incorrect.
Yay! Everybody wins! Wait, that's not allowed on this site, is it?
... for some. Adblock Plus works, too. For me. Nice and clean pages.
