LENOVO HAS RECALLED batteries from some Thinkpad laptop models because they erroneously display a system error message alerting users to "irreparable damage".
The outfit is to replace battery packs for models T60, T61, R60, R61, X60 and X6. An inherent fault in the Llthium-ion polymer batteries causes error messages to be displayed including "battery cannot be charged".

No further explanation is given as to what the underlying fault actually is, despite calls by the INQUIRER to Lenovo and its technical support line.
You can check out if your own system is affected using the battery diagnostic tool, which can be downloaded from the support page.
It appears there is no immediate life-threatening danger with these faulty battery packs, which will not result in them exploding, unlike the last major Lenovo battery recall of 2006, where faulty batteries might have totalled your PowerPoint presentation, the laptop and everything else nearby. µ

I think batteries need some industry standardization because there are way too many recalls and shenanigans going on.
my R60 9 cell battery FRU P/N 42T5245 also suffering exactly the same problem recently. After running Lenovo battery diagnostic tool system says "not eligible for replacement"... Why is mine not replaceable?
No response from Lenovo... surprise, surprise. I've been totally ignored by Lenovo with my enquiries over a fault on my R60e. Customer support, what customer support?
