T-Mobile offers Iphone under the counter

In a plain brown wrapper, sir?

T-MOBILE IS TEMPTING selected customers to upgrade their contracts by offering them Iphones and HTC Heros.

Sources in the company's call centre in Merthyr, Wales, told the INQ's sister site V3 that T-Mobile is running the upgrade as a trial before full roll-out. It appears the Iphones are a limited stock obtained from the mobile operator's parent Deutsche Telecom.

The offer is being pitched only to 'high-value' customers, that is, heavy mobile telephony users, whom T-Mobile fears might slip away to another operator. They are transferred to the 'Save' desk where they are offered an Iphone or Hero if they upgrade to a Flext 2009 plan.

The aim is to reduce churn from 27 per cent to 20. But don't be surprised if the offer suddenly evaporates now that the news is public. µ

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
