MEDICAL RESEARCHERS claim that spending too much time in front of computer monitors and TV screens is causing an epidemic of high blood pressure amongst kiddies.
According to Science Daily, it does not matter how lardy a kid gets sitting in front of a screen, their blood pressure still can go sky high.
Of course kids getting fatter also increases blood pressure which was also a major concern to the medical boffins conducting the study.
David Martinez-Gomez of Iowa State University and the Spanish National Research Council looked at elevated blood pressure in 111 young children.
They strapped an accelerometer over the kids' right hip and examined parental reports stating the average time the children spent watching TV, playing video games, painting, sitting or taking part in other activities with low levels of physical activity each day for seven days. They then weighed the children and checked their blood pressure.
Researchers found that kids sat still on average for five hours and spent about 1.5 hours in front of TV or computer screens.
While the fact that they did not move much was not significantly correlated to blood pressure readings, results showed that computer screen time and TV watching raised the kids' blood pressure. µ
So are they saying kids find TV and computers stimulating? That's the way I read it.
Maybe if the kids ate food that naturally lowers blood pressure instead of salty crisps and sodas while remaining immobile for hours would improve the situation.
You could say the exact same thing about work.
